Hello, My Grandmother Edith Mote SMITH and her family moved from Lafayette, IN Tippencanoe Co. Sometime after 1899. She was approximately 8 yrs. old at the time. Her father's name was Marcellus L. SMITH and her mother Rosa B. They moved to Placerville, CA. She went to school there and later went to Santa Cruz High School. I know nothing about their life in Placerville. She later went on to become a Consert Singer and I have a few newspaper clippings that says she sang by invitation in Placerville. I would appreciate a city directory lookup for the year of 1900.
