Hi Ralph, I don't have a lot of info, but Camp 10 was one of the logging camps that operated out of Placerville. According to my husband (U.S. Forest Service) Camp 10 is located about 10-15 air miles North of Placerville. The company was The Michigan and California Logging Co. My husband's grandparents also lived in many of the camps. They used to load the cabins on railroad cars and move them from one camp to another. Hello- I was wondering if anyone had an idea where to begin locating William DALY. He came to Placerville in 1853 w/his brothers and stayed there until his death between 1865 - 1890. I have checked the voter's registered of 1892 and there is a William Daly listed but it is not him as he was born in 1829. Thanks in advance for any help. Karen
I am trying to find information about a Charles Henry Young, who was married & died in Auburn, CA. He died in Oct 1957, but I have no info as to when he was born. I believe that since he apparently lived all his married life in Auburn, that he is buried in one of the Cemeteries in the Auburn area. Is there anyone who can let me know what cemeteries exist in Auburn or has info that can help me obtain when He was born or where he was buried? In doing some research on the Winkelman family in El Dorado county I found a reference to a publication that was titled Burial Ground of El Dorado Vol I; Published 1987; Publisher: El Dorado. It listed a cemetery called Blair's-Winkelman Cemetery. Does anyone know where this cemetery is located? I know that Jacob Winkelman and his family are buried at the Greenwood Cemetery in El Dorado county. Is this the same cemetery only by a different name? Thank you for your time. George H. WICKES (1881-1955), son of my gr-gr-uncle, George Summers WICKES, is reported to have been the Placerville Fire Chief (1916). Can anyone on this list confirm this as fact, and maybe tell me over what years he held this position. Also, would appreciate any information regarding his family. His son, George R. WICKES, b. 1907, no doubt went to school in Placerville; he later was a career Naval Officer, and died about ten years ago in Oakland. He also had a daughter, Marion Wickes, 1910-1973, probably born in Placerville. Marion married a Mr. Hanson. This is the extent of my knowledge of this family, so any additional information would be gladly received. Seeking history of Phillips Resort on US 50. My father began vacationing in the area in early 1900s. We owned a cabin on adjacent property in the national forest in the 1930s. The Sickles and Lyons families of Placerville operated the property at that time. Ralph Anderson Boulder, CO rkaboulder@bwn.net
