I am going to try one more time before giving up, hoping SKS will send me obit and/or death cert transcription for Wadie Webb who died in El Dorado Co., CA on Feb 4, 1945. If you can do this, please let me know at ShaLamont@msn.com Thanks for any help. Sharon Young Jebavy
I'd like to share with you a new mailing list CA-DEATH-INDEX-L@rootsweb.com and CA-DEATH-INDEX-D@rootsweb.com (digest) especially for archiving CADI lookups so that only one list has to be searched to find previously identified CADI information. If you're already on the rootsweb.com mailing list you know the subscribe procedures (I'll include them at the end of the message for those that can't remember) So.... If you are a volunteer that does CADI lookups I would like to invite you to subscribe and provide assistance to others that are looking for CADI information. If you currently post the data found to a county list or a regional list, just add this list to your address book and post your results here also to make searching easier Or If you are looking for CADI information, this is the list to ask for help. Or If you have had CADI information provided to you in the past and would like to have it posted to the list so that others can find it in the archives, you're welcome to post those previous lookups also. I would like to see CA death transcriptions shared here also...... So if you are one of those volunteers that visits recorder's offices on a regular basis and does death certificate transcriptions, please share your information here. Or if you have death certificates in your possession and would like to share, please post them also..... With the advent of all the CA county lists it has become increasingly difficult to search the archives for all the previous CADI listings that have been provided between NORCAL, SOCAL, CAROOTS, etc. So, if you do either sort of lookup, CADI or death certificate transcriptions, please subscribe and share. It's really easy to just put the address in your address book and remember to add it to the message when you do your regular post to NORCAL, SOCAL, CAROOTS or your county list. For those that don't need another list to belong to, I would be happy to post your past or present CADI or death certificate transcriptions for you - just send me the information at norby@ainet.com Colleen Norby Subscribe to the list in mail mode by sending a message to CA-DEATH-INDEX-L-request@rootsweb.com that contains the word subscribe and nothing else. If you prefer digest mode, you should send the command instead to CA-DEATH-INDEX-D-request@rootsweb.com. To unsubscribe, you should send the command "unsubscribe" to CA-DEATH-INDEX-L-request@rootsweb.com (if in mail mode) or CA-DEATH-INDEX-D-request@rootsweb.com (if in digest mode.) To switch from one mode to the other, you should unsubscribe from one and then subscribe to the other. There is no "no mail" mode -- if you want messages to stop, you should simply unsubscribe.
I am new to the list and am researching the Butts family who came from Dallas County Missouri in 1860 by wagon train. We know that they left the train in Georgetown (near Placerville) upon arrival in 1860, but soon after made their way to Sonoma County. My subject is a James Henry Butts, born in Missouri in 1852. I have found the family in the Federal Census of Sonoma County in 1870, but James Henry (at age 17) was not living with his father and step-mother. There are two James Butts' shown on in California on the 1870 census--one in Placerville and one in Nevada City. The local FHC has the 1870 Census for Placerville, but the left side of most double page is so blurred it is unreadable. Is there any one on the list who has used the 1870 Census of Placerville who may have seen or have access to a clear film. I can provide the actual page James Henry is supposed to be shown on. Any help would be sincerely appreciated. Lou T.
Michael, Yes, Dutch Flat still exists, but it's not in El Dorado Co. it's in Placer County. It's off Highway 80 going from Auburn going towards Nevada. The following was posted by Sharon Young Jebavy <ShaLamont@msn.com> on Mon, 10 Jan 2000 on the El Dorado County GenConnect Query Forum: - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Surname: WEBB, PIERCE, YOUNG I am trying to find descendants of my great aunt, born, Wadie Young, in Perry Co., KY @1870-1885, married first a Pierce and three daughters, Virginia, Lucille and Tenney Belle with Mr. Pierce, married second to a Webb @ 1912-1914 in CA, near Los Angeles. Wadie died in El Dorado Co., CA on Feb 4, 1945. I have been told that Virginia is the only Pierce child who attained adulthood. She may well have had Webb children also. Would LOVE to have contact with anyone who can tell me anything about this family. Wadie was my grandfather's sister. I am sooo excited! I just learned today, via a very sweet researcher named Sylvia on the NORCAL list, that my great aunt Wadie Webb died in El Dorado Co. on Feb 4, 1945. No one in the family had heard from her since 1920. I know she had one daughter, Virginia Pierce, who survived into adulthood. She also had daughters Lucille and Tenney Belle Pierce, but I was told by an aunt that they did not live into adulthood. She may also have had Webb descendants. I would absolutely LOVE to find any descendants. Wadie was born in Perry Co., KY in the 1870-1885 era, married first a Pierce in KY, then a Webb in CA. In the early 1900's she lived at Los Angeles. She was my grandfather's sister. Is anyone researching this family? Thanks. Sharon Young Jebavy Columbus, OH ShaLamont@msn.com
HI My Name is Bill Hocutt, I am the writer responsible for "Uncle Hiram's Adventures in Genealogy". www.stategensites.com It has links to all 50 states, over 4800 links so far. I would like to invite yall to sample them. We are trying to add a fifth columnist specializing in African American Research. Read Eldora County to be El Dorado County. We have an Eldora ski resort near here which has addled my brain. There is a no snow crisis here. Ralph Anderson Boulder, CO rkaboulder@bwn.net
Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I had my doubts since my original message was sent on the 15th and bounced back on the 16th with the cryptic message that Rootsweb.com would not accept the message for 4 hours and that the address had "non transient fatal errors" but that my server would keep sending for the next 5 days. The connection was finally made on the 17th and the message was transmitted over the list. Communications, not genealogy.. My interest in Eldora County is the possibility that my forbears , the Jacob BUROWS family may have arrived in California via the Carson Valley-Placerville route over Johnson Pass the year that it opened in 1852. I am also interested in the history of Phillips stage station, later Phillips Resort along that route where our family vacationed for many years my father beginning his trips to the Sierras from Oakland in the early part of the century. Hi Ralph, The list is active, just not much activity. In the two or three months that I have been a member of this list, I think I have seen only two or three listings. I'm currently trying to find information relating to my g-grandfather Alfred Darling and his family (in addition to the Dent's and Vose's). Alfred lived in Michigan Bluffs when he first came to California in 1852, then moved to Georgetown. He and his sons (Andrew, George, Charles) owned (or operated) the Darling Mine on Bear Creek. If you run across anything on this family while you are researching Eldorado County, I would certainly appreciate the information. In return, if you let me know what family(s) you are researching, I can keep my eye open as well. Have you checked out the links located on the USGenWeb Eldorado County site? Minerva (Minnie) (Gilbert) Smith married James Smith of Georgetown and lived the rest of her life in Georgetown. If any one has information on her or her mother would appreciate hearing from you. I would especially like to hear from her granddaughter Sonny Faye who twenty years ago was living 4 miles south of Georgetown. Have tried to contact Mrs. Faye but her address or phone seems to be changed or maybe she no longer lives there. We both share the same GGGrandfather William Riley Gilbert.
