Thanks for the message about Andrew Cady living with Emma and William Van Duesen. A few years back I had been in touch with a descendant of Emma and William who identified Emma as being a Cady. If Andrew is a son of Chester's then he must have been visiting his Aunt on census day. If he was the son of Abner maybe Abner was in Michigan and left Andrew behind. The 1860 census had Andrew living as a farmhand with another family so there is no clue there as to his proper parents. I think I need to track down wills for Abner and Chester to see if they mention a son Andrew. Shirley mentioned that Abners wife Betsey died in Michigan. Do you know what county?
