My favorite brick wall. Thought I'd revive my info so that perchance a new list member might shed some light on thither mystery. (Yep, just saw Shakespeare's MSN's Dream, quite good.) John Polk Hazard was born in 1850, reportedly in Boone Co Indiana. I say "reportedly" since I haven't found him, nor any convergence of the names Polk and Hazard, in the versions of the 1860 census I looked thru. His family "moved to Missouri when the [Civil] War was done." No more exact info than that. JPH next turns up in 1884 filing for land in Box Butte Co Nebraska, one of the four original pioneers of Lawn Township. He marries Jessie A. Cady of Tipton Grove, Hardin Co Iowa in 1885. They have 3 children: Mabel, Maude Isma, and Clarence Cady. Jessie goes home to Mama with infant Clarence. John finally divorces Jessie for abandonment and, in 1914, marries Mrs. Laura L. Ravert. JPH was a civil engineer and certified land lawyer with an office in downtown Alliance, the county seat. Then, family tradition says, he went surveying in the Rocky Mts. where he contracted spotted fever and died. If anything sounds familiar, if anyone has any ideas where to continue, . . . :-) Betty Researching Bruna, Cady, Dobkowski (Dob), Fox (Fuchs), Gregonis (Gre/aygonis-UK, Grygonu), Hazard, Kawecki, Perlinski, Polk, Prescott, Von Derlick
