Hi everyone, Again, welcome to the brand-new Cady surname mail list. I would like to encourage each of you to "introduce" yourselves by posting your Cady Family interests to the list. (Thank you, George!) I am Suzanne (Sue) and I live in St. Clair County, Michigan, about 3 miles from the farmhouse that Sarah Cady and her husband Lution Fairfield built about 1870. Sarah lived to be 95 years old and was quite the gal, as I understand. (My dad, who is now 82, remembers her very well.) There are three newspaper articles about her, two are interviews and one is a long obit ("oldest resident dies, etc") and all give differing information! Her death record, reported by her children who were themselves elderly, is sketchy as to her parents' names. >From what I've been able to piece together, Sarah was born in Southbridge, Worcester County, Mass. in 1836. Her parents, August Cady and Helen Lyons, came from the Mass-Conn border area. (The only problem is I can locate no one by those names.) The family traveled to New York State by "ox-drawn covered wagon" when Sarah was a girl. In 1854, she married Lution Fairfield in New York and through 1855 - 1864 they were living in South Pulteney, Steuben County, where their four oldest children, Frank, Charles, Louella and Frances were born. By 1867 they were in Michigan where they had three more children and lived out their years. I am looking forward to hearing from each of you. Sue
