    1. [CADY-L] new cady
    2. Hi everybody, We're new to this list and so will give you our branch (going backwards in time) and a little of our searches (from memory since I'm not at home where my notes are): My father-in-law was Clarence Cady Hazard, b 1895, Lawn, Nebraska; d 1983, Redlands, CA; siblings Mabel (don't know *anything* about her) and Maude who married __ Blake in No Dakota. Maude had four children; one was killed in WWII, the other three are still living and in ND. Clarence's parents: Jessie Cady of Tipton Grove, Iowa (near Hubbard in Hardin Co) m. John Polk Hazard who was born in Boone Co, Indiana c. 1850 and whose family moved to Missouri after the Civil War (That's all I know about the early life of JPH other than he is related somehow to President Polk. Tradition sez "the family hated [President] Polk's politics so much they turned their name around." … And just what the heck does that mean?!). Jessie left John shortly after the birth of Clarence and went back home to Iowa. John formally divorced her several years later. John remarried in 1914. Jessie married Arby Mealman (date?) and moved with him and Clarence (about 1898) to Anadarko, OK where they worked their way up to having their own cafe, the "Little Gem." Jessie and Arby spent their last days in Davenport, Iowa, near Clarence's home. Jessie's siblings include Frank Prescott Cady who seemed to be close to her; James who died as a young lawyer "with much promise"; J. J. (can't remember his first name -- Jeremiah? Jedediah?!) who apparently went to Oregon (His family info was sent to Jim Cady's book by a Hazel Cady who lived in Oregon.); and the oldest sibling who is female and who married Matthew Wing, a minister. (Besides having a sieve for a memory, I'm also suffering from jet-lag -- I'll update this when I get home next week, but I was eager to get started in a dialogue with y'all.) Perley Philip Cady b in Steuben Co., NY, spent time in Michigan, m. Olive Bradford Prescott (direct descendent of Wm Bradford, gov. of Plymouth Colony) lived in Tipton Grove (Tipton Township). P.P. had land, easy to locate today because there was/is a creek with a prominent bend. Clarence remembered his grandfather as being the postmaster. Upon visiting the area last spring we found out that the USPS only keeps records of appointed postmasters and not "acting" postmasters, so we have surmised that is what P.P. must have been. The present owner of the land, after saying to my husband "Welcome home!", told us the land had once been a stage stop -- a detail we want to follow up on. We parked our mini-motorhome on the land and spent the night (really exciting thing to do!). Olive moved to the town of Hubbard (Hardin Co. seat) after P.P. died. Apparently very recently someone in Hubbard replaced/updated pioneer grave markers and put "Preston P. Cady" on Perley's headstone, an error we hope to get corrected. Going back beyond Perley is in the Cady book. I remember a "Benjamin Cady" somewhere, but that is all that's in the memory bank. My hope is that someone will recognize this branch of the family and have more info on them, especially Frank. We know that Frank was born in Iowa and lived for a time in Nebraska, in the same township as Jessie as he was on the tax rolls. He also filed for a patent in Alliance, the Box Butte Co. seat. He was married and had children (again, that memory bank! Will fill in the blanks in next e-letter). Clarence was sent to live with his Uncle Frank to be able to attend high school in Hubbard, Iowa. When did Frank return home? Why? Clarence never mentioned any of Frank's family but related that Frank suddenly arranged for Clarence to house-sit in the next town. Then Frank "went to Missouri where he died." Where in Missouri? Why to Missouri? There is a possible connection in that John Polk Hazard's family was in Missouri. Looking forward to hearing from someone. Betty Researching Hazard, Cady, Prescott, Bradford, Kawecki, Dob (Dobkowski), Gregonis (Greygonis, Grygonu), Von Derlick, Perlinski, Fox (Fuchs), Bruna
