I have the obituary and a small notice for William Waterman Cady. His obituary, from the Rochester Union and Advertiser, 19 Apr 1897, says he was born 5 Oct 1816 in Canaan, Columbia NY and died 19 April 1897 in Rochester, Monroe, NY. William worked for the Erie Canal for more than 40 years. His was survived by a sister, Elizabeth Witbeck, and a grandson, William C. Badger. In the Rochester Union and Advertiser, 19 Apr 1875, Page 2 we find: Canal Collector Thompson has made the following appointments: First Clerk, W. W. Cady; Second Clerk, E. F. Rigney. Both of these gentlemen are familiar with the duties of the positions through previous service and their re-appointment will prove generally satisfactory.
