    3. Hi everyone, I came back early from vacation as I became ill. Please bear with me for awhile as I am not up to par and have to go to the hospital for tests, etc. Shirley, I was so sorry to learn of your computer problems. Your postings are so much appreciated! Please, please everyone! Run out and buy a virus "screener" for your computer. ASAP! If you are unsure what program to buy, ask a reputable computer shop. The cost is very little compared to the damage a virus can cause. There have been nasty ones floating about as of late. Yes, Shirley, I agree that we should never open an attachment from someone unknown, but like you, if it pertains to "our" families, we are trusting! I don't have a solution, and perhaps someone has a better idea. (Please pass it on) I generally don't open attachments unless I know the sender. I use the good old post office to mail much of what I would "attach", and also encourage others to do the same for me. Even with my virus screener, I am careful. Best wishes to all, and have a wonderful holiday week-end. Sue, Cady List Manager Descendant of Sarah H. Cady: Southbridge, MA, Steuben Co. NY, St Clair County, Mich.

    3. I have been off the computer since May 4th and just got back on this last Thursday. Was so discouraged I threw all my Family tree in to boxes.Have lots of damage. My server still can't get my websites back. Can't use the internet at all.Damage is unknown yet.I have lost 200 FT pictures I had stored in my paperport.I had them backed up on a disk but don't know yet if that was a success. Got to find the paperport. Waiting for help on this before I tried to re-install it.The server and I have worked hours into nights while he is home nights from his regular job.We still don't know how bad the damage is yet.Don't know total loss also of my personal FT info. The virus followed a lady's letter without her knowing it.Being it was a Cady name I didn't give it a thought and clicked on the attachment. It won't happen again if I can help it.Will be sorting my papers out again and try to get it back in order. I have a hard time getting my mailbox back when I once shut the comp. off.The comp. itself is not acting right at all.If I haven't answer anyone back please let me know and will try to get back to you. I have been told I haven't answered some letters from my friends.I told them they never reached me so I have not recieved every letter that was mailed to me.Sorry about all of this.I have a few things here to post. [ Seperate] Maybe it will help someone. Let me know. Shirley Cleveland

    1. [CADY-L] Polk Hazard
    2. My favorite brick wall. Thought I'd revive my info so that perchance a new list member might shed some light on thither mystery. (Yep, just saw Shakespeare's MSN's Dream, quite good.) John Polk Hazard was born in 1850, reportedly in Boone Co Indiana. I say "reportedly" since I haven't found him, nor any convergence of the names Polk and Hazard, in the versions of the 1860 census I looked thru. His family "moved to Missouri when the [Civil] War was done." No more exact info than that. JPH next turns up in 1884 filing for land in Box Butte Co Nebraska, one of the four original pioneers of Lawn Township. He marries Jessie A. Cady of Tipton Grove, Hardin Co Iowa in 1885. They have 3 children: Mabel, Maude Isma, and Clarence Cady. Jessie goes home to Mama with infant Clarence. John finally divorces Jessie for abandonment and, in 1914, marries Mrs. Laura L. Ravert. JPH was a civil engineer and certified land lawyer with an office in downtown Alliance, the county seat. Then, family tradition says, he went surveying in the Rocky Mts. where he contracted spotted fever and died. If anything sounds familiar, if anyone has any ideas where to continue, . . . :-) Betty Researching Bruna, Cady, Dobkowski (Dob), Fox (Fuchs), Gregonis (Gre/aygonis-UK, Grygonu), Hazard, Kawecki, Perlinski, Polk, Prescott, Von Derlick

    3. Hazel Belle Cady Blake wrote a 30-page memoir of Nebraska at the turn of the century. She came to Jamison, in Keya Paha County in a covered wagon, lived in a sod house, went to a one-room school house and killed rattlesnakes with a stick. I have a copy and would be happy to send it to anyone who wants it. Let me know if your mail server handles attachments well (AOL does not) and if you have Word 97. I can send it out as 1) A .DOC file attachment (75 KB) 2) A .TXT file attachment (55 KB) 3) A flat (long) mail message The word document is easiest to read; they all have the same data. Here is a list of the people with the CADY surname she mentions, their birthday and their spouse: Cady, Carol Jane b. bet 1931 and 1941 m. ? Cady, Crystal Imogene b. ? m. ?
