    1. [CADY] Re: parentage of William Cady

    3. I'm not saying that the William Cady who died in Andersonville is MY Cady. It isnt. And it is Jennings, not Jemmings. I dont have much on her either. One by one. :) Maybe I will work on her next. I have my Ancestry membership till Sept and I will just play with it till then. After that, I can get free from the library if I go down. But I'm never going to be a fanatic. Or should I say, I'm never going to be really serious. It is just a fun hobby for awhile. Thanks again for the encouragement. 3. I also take trips to the Allen County Library in Fort Wayne. I have access to Famiysearch.org (Free) Ancestry.com (Available at Library) and MyHeritage/Geni. Rootweb is now owned by Ancestry.com and it was the place to go back in the early 2000’s. Don’t be discouraged, when I started my ancestor was listed in “Cady Genealogy” by Dr James W Cady as disconnected and many researchers had him listed incorrectly with other families. I kept looking for info on his relatives and eventually pieced it together. William is a common name, which makes it hard. But his wife Sarah Caroline Jemmings is your best lead. Jemmings is possibly German, I also have a ggg-grandmother Jemmings. 3. William Cady 1825-1863 I have researched the surname Cady for over a decade, and much of what I have found goes back quite a bit further. First, the surname has at least three roots. The English name originated in Eastern England and migrated to the American Colonies as early as 1630, most are related to Nicholas Cady of Watertown, MA. The Irish surname mostly came from Tyrone County and is related to Clan Keady or Keity. Most Irish or Scots-Irish arrived after 1840. The Germanic surname mostly came from Bavaria or Bohemia, although some Census records show most European Countries. The best way to track which Cady group is with a Male Y-DNA from FamilytreeDNA. (English is haplogroup “I”, Irish are likely Haplogroup R and European is Haplogroup H or J. I have done most of my research on the English. William was born in Canada which likely points to the English line. Related to Nicholas Cady whose descendants moved north into Vermont and New York. Many later moved to Michigan and some into Southern Canada. It is also possible they came from England directly, which would be recorded. I did find a William Cady married to Sarah Caroline Jennings. There are three families on Ancestry.com who claim William, but none agree on his birth or his parents. The Census of 1850 shows a William in Westfield, Chautauqua, New York with his wife and daughter. The Census of 1860 shows William and family in Sandusky, Erie, Ohio, where he dies in 1863. Sarah Caroline Jennings 1828-1905 parents were Hector Jennings and Delina M Cummings. William may have been born in Canada, likely in transit from New York to Ohio via Lake Erie. (Note the Erie Canal did not open until 1825, so some traveled to Canada). Records in New York are spotty before 1840. I do have a suspect. Chester Jr Cady 1800-and Harriet Keyes 1800. His family was from Westfield, but I do not show any children yet. (See PROSPER CADY (Chester, Eleazer, William, John, James, Nicholas) his brother lived in Westfield. 3. Hello I’m sorry I only know what’s in my family tree.i don’t have an Orrin Cady. My Cady line is stalled at my great great grandfather Benjamin Johnson Cady. No one can prove who his father is, although many a worthy person has tried. Have you been in touch with James Cafy? He seems to know a lot about the Cady’s. Good luck, sounds like you might be dealing with an adoption type situation? Thanks Margaret Sent from my iPhone > On Aug 3, 2018, at 4:46 PM, Carter Rogers via CADY <cady@rootsweb.com> wrote: > > I am looking for information about descendants of Orrin Cady, b. The story of my "brick wall" follows: > My grandfather Rogers arrived in Richmond, Ray, Missouri, USA about 1892. He said his name was Albert Henry Rogers, born on Jan 20, 1860 in New Jersey. This matches 1900 and later census records , except the 1940 census says that he was born in Wisconsin. According to my father and his siblings, he said very little about his family. However, he did say that his father was Nelson Rogers, a sea captain, and his mother was named Anna. He said his father died in a sea accident., that he inherited a settlement after he turned 21, and spent the money, ending up in Missouri. My aunt, a cousin, and I have looked high and low for Albert and Nelson Rogers, and have never been able to find any credible mention of them in any census record or other record anywhere. It is as if they never lived. My Family Tree DNA Y test shows that my closest male line is Cady with five Cadys at the top of my list at marker 67. The Genetic distances are 1, 2, 3, 3, and 4. The only Rogers listed in my results is at the 12 marker, no Rogers after that. The top two Cadys have not responded to my requests to correspond. The 3s and 4s are probably too distant so I have not tried to contact them.In order to search for ancestors of my grandfather and grandmother Rogers, a cousin who descended from my grandfather and grandmother Rogers and I looked for shared matches to both of us using Ancestry DNA where we both had taken autosomal DNA tests. I quickly found a DNA 2nd cousin once removed who had a Cady ancestor named Nelson married to a Hannah Rogers. The DNA cousin provided me with some information on this Cady and Rogers family. The 1860 Wisconsin census shows that Nelson and Hannah had a son, born in Wisconsin in January 1860. He was named Clarence Arthur Cady. The 1870 census shows this family in New Jersey. The 1880 census shows Arthur Cady in New York with his family. However, later census records are sketchy about Clarence/Arthur, although the Descendants of Nicholas Cady Genealogy book says that Arthur married and had two children, but no names or locations are given. Nelson Cady was a blacksmith, not a sea captain. Could the family have misunderstood Hannah as Anna? There are obvious differences in what my family understood that my Grandfather Rogers said. But there are amazing coincidences such as the Y and the autosomal DNA tests, the Wisconsin and New Jersey connections, the January 1860 births of Albert and Arthur/Clarence which inspire me to investigate this possible path to an answer of my "brick wall." Are there actual records that give Clarence's birth date in January 1860? I recently posted a question to members of the Roots Web in Cumberland County New Jersey if there might be school records that have an actual date of birth. So I am wondering if anyone in the Cady might have information on Clarence Arthur Cady or any of Nelson Cady's line which has the following ancestors back to Nicholas Cady: Orrin, 1794-1871; Reubin, 1753-1806; Timothy, 1716-1762; Daniel, 1682-1744; James, 1655-1690; Nicholas. Orrin had a second son who was named George. Descendants of George might be close enough to be cousins in a autosomal match. 3. [1]ancestry This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: jcady622 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board: [2]Click here Message Board Post: What are you looking for? I did the FamilytreeDNA for the Y-DNA and they found 17 matches for my surname (There were more listed as private) On AncestryDNA they found nine cousins and many more distant relatives (6th cousin an greater). I believe this is mostly because they all listed family trees. My surname is 3200 out of 89,000 in the USA, and still it is misspelled and mispronounced most of the time. I read a few books on the subject and used Wikipedia, and it helped to know my roots. But, if you want to know your grandparents or before, the only thing you can do is get others to do their DNA. If you need help with the Cady surname, I might be able to help. jcady622@aol.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hello I can't find the message board to reply.  What website are we cousins on?  Ancestry or gedmatch?  If I could see who we have in common I might be able to help.  But I haven't heard of Lewis Cady so far in my research.  My Cady lineage is Loren V. Cady, Irvin H. Cady, Henry L. Cady, Benjamin Johnson Cady.  After that it gets a bit speculative.
