    1. [CADDY] Notice about Rootsweb Lists
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. This has been received from the Rootsweb administration: Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team If anyone has an interest in finding alternative communication possibilities and/or suggestions for alternatives, please send a note to the list to that effect ASAP. With heavy hearts, Jim and Di

    1. [CADDY] Dorset Caddys
    2. Jeremy Wilkes
    3. Over the last fifty years or so I have gathered a fair amount of information on Caddys of Dorset descent, and their descendants. Of course most of it concerns those to whom I have established a relationship, but it is not restricted to these. I have a little on Caddys whose lines are not known to have sprung from Dorset, but have generally avoided peering far up the trees of Cornish Caddys. I am happy to exchange details with those who have similar interests. I still wonder both whether the various Dorset lines are connected and whether they, or any of them, are connected to the Cornish lines. Jeremy Wilkes

    1. [CADDY] Caddy Brick Wall
    2. In keeping with Jim's request, I am posting about my brick wall. I have not been able to find my great great grandfather, James Caddy. I know that he lived in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania between 1888 and 1890 as he fathered my great grandfather, Arthur Samuel (1890-1915) and his brother, James William (1889-1976). James shows up on the 1890 census substitute, but on no other census records within the preceding or following decades. He just appears and then disappears. I have no other record of him and was only able to determine his first name by James William's death certificate and the 1890 substitute census. Arthur and James W.'s mother was Florence Blackwell (1872-1929). The 1890 census lists James' age as 26, putting his birth year at or around 1864. On newspapers.com, I did find articles relating to the divorce of a James Caddy and Florence Blackwell in 1905, but I am not convinced this is my James and Florence, because there is no mention of children and this Florence runs a "house of ill repute" in a nearby town. Of course, it's possible my Florence, who also went by Eliza, was this woman, but there's no hard evidence and I would think something like this would survive orally over the years. No one in my family has ever heard of her in this capacity or of her living in the town where this house was located. She eventually married a man named Thomas Woods and moved to Philadelphia. There is a death certificate of a stillborn child for Flo and Tom in 1907, so I'm guessing that is around the time they were married. Well, that's about all I have. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it immensely. Troy

    1. [CADDY] Help Keep This List Active
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. We just wanted to encourage you all to make use of this list in your family searches. A large number of Rootsweb lists have been made inactive due to no messages over a period of time. We want to keep as many lists active as we possibly can and your participation will help toward that goal. If you have a "brick wall" in your family search, send in a message with as much information as you have and let's see if someone may be able to help fill in those blanks. Best wishes, Jim and Di

    1. [CADDY] Gathering of Burstock Caddys
    2. Jeremy Wilkes
    3. Somehow I overlooked mentioning this event on this list in the autumn. There is to be a gathering of descendants of John and Elizabeth Caddy and their families on the first weekend of August 2018 in Broadwindsor, Dorset. John lived in Burstock early in the eighteenth century, and probably late in the seventeenth century as well. I do not suppose that many of his progeny subscribe to the list, as there must be at least a thousand of us still living. If you are one, therefore, please pass the news on to those who share your Caddy ancestry. I shall appreciate it if everyone interested in attending lets me know, so that I can estimate a likely number and keep them informed about what is arranged. Anyone without an e-mail facility can contact me at 52 Mount Road, DOVER, GREAT BRITAIN CT17 9LF. Jeremy Wilkes

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: jcady622 Surnames: Cady,Cade Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.caddy/74.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: There are about 23 Cady;s listed over seven years. Most are Private and the data is not available. Of those who are open the larges number are Haplotype "I" M253 most likely of Dane or Viking descent. This likely means the name is not 1. Scotch, 2. Welsh, 4 Irish or 5 Western England (Wessex) that crosses off Cadbury and Dexon. The name is likely to have formed in Northern or Eastern England. More DNA evidence is needed to see if there is one ancient man named Ka-dee. Cade and Cady might be connected, Note three Cady's had different Y-DNA, I investigated and found three reasons for this Name Changed, Paternity issue and Aboption. 1. [CADDY] Facebook Caddy group
    2. Jeremy Wilkes
    3. Gill Caddy, one of my second cousins-in-law, has set up a Facebook group under the name "Caddy family history group" for those interested in the Burstock line of descent. This is the one that has been traced back to John Caddy who lived in Burstock, Dorset between 1709 and 1748, and probably earlier and later as well. He appears to have married Mary Crabb in 1707 or 1709 in Burstock and Elizabeth Hardy in 1730 at Seaborough. Facebook subscribers from this line are welcome to get in touch. Jeremy Wilkes

I have a funny feeling everyone is just about related to everyone. I am getting the impression that my GGmother Jane Chygwidden's (spell 5 ways)mother was an Ann Caddy. Our Caddys all seem to be Samuels We have a large of Trewenecks-spelt 10 ways, all John, Henry, Samuel, William James or Thomas with seldom a second name between them, marrying cousins recklessly! A whole family left Mawgan in Meneage in 1852, along with the husband of one of the daughters who was already a 1st cousin (so family lore says).
