"Lee" Scarlett died Friday, June 14, 2002, in Walnut Creek at age 84. He died from complications of Parkinson's Disease. Born June 17, 1917, in Woodland, Mr. Scarlett was the son of Leland Wilson Scarlett and Stella (Guile) Scarlett. He graduated from Woodland High School in 1935 where he was a cheerleader and active in music. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He also attended San Francisco State University's School of Hotel Management. During his college years, he played clarinet and drums in his own band, performing in various California resorts. He spent many years in the hospitality industry managing hotels and restaurants in Oregon and California. In later years, he became a real estate broker in the Walnut Creek area and finally in Livermore. He was a member of the Elks Club in Woodland and a lifetime Rotarian affiliated with the Rotary Club of Livermore. He enjoyed golf, big bands and the sociability of the Men's Club of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Oakland. Mr. Scarlett is survived by his wife of 44 years, Nancy Scarlett; children, Linda Wingard of Winters, Isabel Harrison of Concord, the Rev. Stephen Scarlett of Irvine, Sandy Milano of Walnut Creek and Scott Scarlett of Antioch; siblings, Patricia Scarlett and Peggy Eichorn of Davis and Daniel Scarlett of Santa Rosa; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Leland Wilson Scarlett Jr., in 1972; and brother, James Scarlett. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 20, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Oakland, with a burial to follow at 2 p.m. in Woodland Cemetery Mausoleum. The family requests memorials be directed to Parkinson's Network of Mount Diablo, Box 3127, Walnut Creek, 94598. Oak Park Hills Chapel of Walnut Creek is assisting the family with arrangements.
