Hi List, I was at the Historical museum in Martinez some time back. I found and copied two pictures, one of the 1880 Walnut Creek Volunteer fire department and one of the Concord # 1 Volunteer fire department. It was organized in 1879 and was at Mt Diablo Street originally then moved to Willow Pass Road. In both of these cases there is a person in the photo that is a Sherman which is one of my families in the area. I would like to positively identify the photos and get some more information about the company. Is there anywhere that has Historical information of the old fire departments? Thanks for any direction on this, I feel a bit like I am looking for a needle in a haystack. Eileen Try this site http://www.co.contra-costa.ca.us/depart/fd-backup/index.htm be sure to check the history button, and when you are on that page check the link to the Central Fire District. A few weeks ago a women who does a history column for the Contra Costa Times, did a story on one of the fire departments, in the area. Right now do not have her name, but will get for you, Wed., with her e-mail address, maybe she can help.
