Bettencourt Manuel Philip Bettencourt died at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Sacramento on Dec. 23, 2001, at the age of 86. Born in Martinez on Dec. 2, 1915, he had been a Woodland resident for 72 years. He spent his early years in the dairy business and retired from UC Davis after 35 years. He loved time spent with his family, music, baseball and working in his garden. A special pleasure in his life was lunches with his friends at the Senior Center. Bettencourt is survived by his daughter, Sharon Pinto and her husband Robert of Woodland; sons, Richard Bettencourt of Woodland and Glenn Bettencourt and his wife Dana of Nampa, Idaho; grandchildren, Charlotte Mares and Dara Tafoya of Woodland, Glenn Bettencourt of Sacramento, Joseph Bettencourt of Esparto and Ryan Bettencourt of Santa Cruz; and great-grandsons, Andrew Harms, T.J. Gonzales and Trey Tafoya, all of Woodland. He was preceded in death by Hazel Bettencourt, his wife of 55 years. Interment with be private, with a memorial service to be held at a later date.
