    1. [CAContraCosta] Hartnett's in Contra Costa County
    2. I was wondering if anyone on the list is researching the HARTNETT surname in Contra Costa County. I have a Kathryn (Katherine) HARTNETT that married a John GARVIN. They had an daughter Kathryn Patricia GARVIN born in 11-17-1911. Also In the 1920 census Kathryn HARTNETT GARVIN's sister JANE HARTNETT was living with them. Jane's birthdate was 11-17-1877 born in Venango County, Pennsylvania. Most of the HARTNETT children were born in Venango County, PA. The family story has it that Owen Maurice (Morris)HARTNETT b. circa 1842 married Mary Martha NELLIS(b. 1858) on May 12, 1879 in Venango County, PA. They supposedly had 7 children. They left PA sometime after 1888 and went to Chicago Illinois. During the time in Illinois Owen Maurice and Mary Martha split. The children supposedly went to California with their father. From a letter written to one of their grandchildren in 1954 by Jane Hartnett. their daughter, she told her nephew "our mother died when we were all very young sometime in 1892 and is buried in Oil City, Venango County, PA." I finally figured out why she gave wrote him some information about the Hartnett's is that his mother, one of the Hartnett girls died when he was very young and he was raised by his father's family. Sadly for all of them they did not know that their mother did not die but remarried and went to the Pittsburgh, PA area dying in 1925 and is buried there. Mary Martha NELLIS HARTNETT MEYERS is my great grandmother through her second husband. I would love to be able to find some descendant's that I could share some information with and also gain some on some of the other children. Thank you in advance for any assistance or leads. 2. Daniel A Hutchison, Sr.
    3. Hi, While helping my new daughter-in-law with her family tree, we found that her Dad had been adopted at the age of six by his Mom's husband in Contra Costa County. Would anyone know the procedure for getting step-parent adoption records unsealed? Or who to call to find out? The adoption would have been in the early 1960's. His Mom & (adopted) Dad have both passed away, and he would like to know more about his birth-father. 1. [CAContraCosta] Judith ''Judy'' Robinson Campos McKEEHAN (1946-2000) (obit.)
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: McKEEHAN, CAMPOS, ROBINSON, EARL, NOONAN Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2V.2ADI/247 Message Board Post: Judith McKeehan Judith ''Judy'' Robinson Campos McKeehan, a homemaker who retired from the practice of law in 1989, died in her Danville home with her family present on Jan. 18, 2000. She died of Hodgkin's lymphoma at the age of 53. Born on Oct. 4, 1946, in New Haven, Conn., she grew up primarily in Woodland. She later lived in Davis and Sacramento, before moving to Danville in 1986. After earning her bachelor's degree in anthropology in 1969 and a law degree in 1974 from UC Davis, she began a distinguished legal career that started at the California Court of Appeal, 3rd Appellate District, Sacramento, where her work earned the praise and respect of the justices for whom she worked, particularly the then-Presiding Justice Robert Pulia. She left the Court of Appeal in 1977 to take a position as an associate at the law firm of Dahl, Hefner, Stark and Marois. In 1980, she was elected president of the Sacramento Young Lawyers' Association. Very much a pioneer in her profession, in 1984 she became the first woman to be elected a partner at Hefner, Stark and Marois. That same year, she also became the first woman lawyer to be elected president of the Sacramento County Bar Association, and won the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce's award for a Woman in a Non-Traditional Role in Business. However, despite these firsts, she stated in a Sacramento Union news story, ''I've tried to emphasize being a lawyer first and a woman second.'' Later, she became a member of the Board of Governors of the California State Bar Association. She also was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the District Court for both the Eastern and Northern districts of California. She retired from the practice of law in 1989 to devote her full time to raising her newborn daughter Kelly. She was an accomplished athlete and artist. She was a champion diver at Woodland High School, and later excelled at tennis, golf, snow skiing and water skiing. In 1979, she obtained her pilot's license. An avid painter, in her 20s she painted several remarkable van Gogh copies that were highly prized by family and friends. Later, she took up clay sculpture, specializing in life-like busts of family and friends. She played tournament bridge, and spent much of her spare time in her garden, which was the subject of an article in her local newspaper. She is survived by her husband, James McKeehan of Danville; son, Paul Campos of Orinda; daughter, Kelly McKeehan of Danville; parents, Dr. and Mrs. Benjamin Robinson of Woodland; three sisters, Robin Martha (Robinson) Earl of Nashville, Tenn., and her husband Gary, Kathy Robinson of Davis and Kim (Robinson) Noonan of Danville and her husband Jim Noonan; and five nieces. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wilson and Kratzer Chapel of San Ramon Valley, 825 Hartz Way, Danville. Following the service, a reception will be held at the McKeehan residence at 36 Goldstone Court, Danville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Hospice of Contra Costa County, 2051 Harrison St., Concord, CA, 94520; or to the Leukemia Society of America, North California Chapter, 832 Folsom, ninth floor, San Francisco, CA, 94107. 1. [CAContraCosta] Andersonville Civil War POW site
    2. Kevin Frye
    3. Hello veterans and newbies of the rootsweb. There are some really great folks who are willing to help just for the asking. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. I know that California was not closely involved in the war here on the East coast, but I do know that many soldiers and families went West following the conflict including a few of my ancestors.. Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. There are 41771 prisoners on record from the Union Regiments who were held here and 12960 who died here . Of these, only 460 are marked as Unknown. I thought I would send my offer to this site as I have gotten many request from California researchers in the 3 years I have been doing my work here at Andersonville.. I feel the need to say I am not in anyway trying to focus on the horrors of Andersonville compared to any POW camp in the north ..( i.e.Elmira ) or any others and do not wish to stir up arguments on this site. My focus is dedicated to ALL of those held prisoner during this war , on both sides as well as all Americans who gave their freedoms for those that we enjoy today.. I just happen to be near Andersonville so this is where I do my work Here are my sources of research. There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of 12960 graves with only 460 marked as " UNKNOWN " This along with a CD I have which contains 34,000 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. I would like to let you know of another service I offer which is to take photos of graves for a small fee. Please do not consider this spam as my research offer is FREE for the asking and will be posted on this county site only once. If there is anything I can do in helping your research at Andersonville, please just ask.
