Hello, Looking for some assistance locating an Andrew Shirran who was enumerated in the 1880 Census as living in Pacheco, Contra Costa County. His wife is identified as Mary Ann and there are at least two sons with the surname Shirran and one daughter, Jennie Lasswell, from Mary Ann's first marriage to an unknown Lasswell. Living with the family was Joshua Minshall who is noted as being "father-in-law" indicating Mary Ann's maiden name may have been Minshall/Menshall. Jennie Lasswell was my great-grandmother. I'm curious to find any information about her Shirran family or about Joshua Minshall who would be my great-great-great-grandfather. All help greatly appreciated. I've sent to Contra Costa, Alameda and San Francisco since Jennie died in San Francisco and others in our family died in Oakland. Thanks in advance. Sue Silver

Most of the various siblings ultimately passed away in the Oakland and Alameda, California area. Since the females were prolific I figure that there are bound to be a couple still around. If they are out there, I seek them. One such was Annie Laura Dobson that was married to Charles W. Brewen. She was born 1863 and died in 1942 in Alameda. If there was an obit for her, I would surely like to have it, too. I thank everyone that reads these queries.

I grew up there and now I am in Pennsylvania with no chance of ever getting back, that I know of. I would love to see some of places I lived in and went to school at. I remember the railroad tracks by the water and laying in my grandma's bed listening to the train go by. Right across the street from her apartment complex was the school I used to go get summer lunches from. Both sets of grandparents lived there and other family members as well. My dad's parents lived at Vaqueros Avenue across from a big ditch. I remember seeing the gas station across from their house over the little bridge. I even remember seeing all the cars lined up for the gas shortage. I went to Hillcrest school and my dad went to Garretson Heights. My great aunt lived not to far from the school too. Because my parents lived in San Francisco, I'm guessing that this man may have been stationed there at some point or had some connection to my mother's Italian family. I found an online database that references an August John Ginocchio who was born in Concord & died in Walnut Creek with a living spouse and living children. I'm wondering if someone would be so kind as to check the local telephone directory to see if this family still resides in Contra Costa County.
