"She came to San Francisco in a Steamer, the NORTH AMERICA, January 18, 1852, by way of San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua, and the captain was J. H. Blethen. It took 12 days from San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua. The passengers came through from the East Coast of the United States in a total of 26 days. After leaving San Juan del Sur, it was found the coal was very inferior and could not raise more than 3 to 4 inches of steam for some days, until good coal, when she made over 16 miles per hour. On January 16, 1852 made 390 miles in 24 hours. Was off the Heads of San Francisco on January 17th at 10:00P.M. but was unable to come in on account of fog." Was told that they were possibly buried along a fence and that for some reason (maybe a fire) the markers are no longer there. Any help for locating these 2 or even a piece of paper stating that they were buried there with some information about their death (date, reason, etc) would be tremendously helpful. Hi Lois, It appears that Vina died in Altaville which is in Calaveras county.....I know a researcher in that area that could transcribe her death certificate and maybe get the name and address of the informant.... If you want actual copies of the obits from the Modesto Bee I can do get copies for you but it looks like the obit didn't name surviving children.....
