    3. Per Logan's Alley Vol 2 by Larry Cenotto There is a whole section on postoffices & post masters in Amador County from 1851 to 1930. Electra is listed: Electra (On Mokelumne River, east of Hwy 49) October 5, 1900, Caleb Ellison, to May 31, 1923 So we know there was town enough to have a post office for 23 years. There is also an interesting portion of this article....By August, 1851, the mail schedule out of Stockton sent stages to arrive in Jackson's Creek every Wednesday, and depart the next day. Another stage took mail from Sacramento via New York Ranch road to Volcano from Sacramento, arriving every Friday at 6 p.m., and departing every Saturday at 6 a.m. for Sacramento City via Jackson's Creek adn "Dry Town". It may seem that the department allowed the contractors an inordinate amount of time for such a short route. But, we must remember that the routes in '51 were hardly widenend trails, even though some had already been improved by the county, and enterprising individuals in other camps spanned some creeks and rivers with toll bridges. Otherwise, the mail stage forded the streams or was ferried across. Jackie in California [email protected]
