Hello from a new subscriber - These are my husband's ancestors who settled in Amador County in the 1850's and 1860's: Henry Thomas White, b 5-19-1850 IA, d 2-1-1919 CA, married Imogene May Matthis, b 6-5-1861 Amador Co, d 5-6-1935 Amador Co; married 8-26-1880 in Jackson. Henry's parents were James Johnson White, b c 1825 PA, d after 1882 Amador Co, and Jane Hannah Kerr, b 1830 PA, d 10-7-1876 Amador Co. Other children: John, Marietta, Elizabeth, Harper, Sarah, Robert and Rose. May's parents were George M. L. Matthis, b 1827 KY, d 9-18-1891 Amador Co, and Mary Aurelia Lawrence, b 1832 IL, d 6-20-1866 Amador Co. Other children: John G., Mary A., and Helen. I noticed while searching the CAAMADOR-L archives that there were quite a few references to Whites and Kerrs in the newspaper extracts. I have info that says the White and Kerr families traveled together from the midwest, including Jane's brothers John and Dave Kerr, and John's wife and young daughter. Apparently young Dave had been in CA already and was sent back to Iowa to help his siblings and their families make the move to California, so that suggests there may have been other siblings who remained in Amador County. If anyone can connect with any of these families, I'd love to hear from you. Linda
