    1. Re: [CAAMADOR] Vicini Researchers
    2. Dear Jean, You need to find out if there is still a District Court in Calaveras County (it would be in San Andreas if one still exists). If there is no longer a District Court there, call the County Clerk's office (209/754-6372) and find out if the District Court records were incorporated into the Superior Court. You are probably going to get a lot of run-around so be patient and talk to supervisors if you aren't getting the answers you need. If there is someone there specifically in charge of records, they may be your best bet. Even though you have the date that they went to court and were granted citizenship, the only record that will exist is the court order granting the citizenship. It won't contain any genealogical information. If you can locate the Declarations of Intent, you will have hit paydirt. Its a good bet that the Declarations were also filed in the District Court in Calaveras County within the 5 years preceding the date citizenship was granted. In my own case, my gg-grandfather filed his Declaration in Amador Co.'s District Court in Sept. of 1856. His citizenship was granted in Sept. 1860. The District Court no longer exists in Amador Co., but the Amador Archives has the court registers which reflect the general nature of the proceedings each day -- a docket if you will. I have not yet been successful in locating the actual Declaration, but I have seen the register where the filing of the Declaration was noted. Also, there are some actual Declarations trickling into the Archives bit by bit. Apparently there are boxes of old documents warehoused in various county facilities in Jackson -- the contents of which remain a mystery. There is a possibility that the documents were transferred to the San Bruno branch of the NA, but don't count on it. If anyone on the list has been successful in obtaining a Declaration of Intent filed cir. 1850 to 1880 in a California District Court, perhaps they can tell us how and where. I hope this helps in some way and let us know how you faired. Deborah Gubbins Curlanis
