    1. [CAAMADOR] GB VICINI
    2. I am sending this, because so many on the list have sent me various things about the Vicini family and you will recognize how it fits. First of all I received a 8x10 glossy of GB Giovanni and his family, all in front of his house in Sutter Creek, from the Amador County Archives. The letter that accompanied this photo is written by Robert Hubbs, grandson to Charles P. Vicini. Robert Hubbs living in Chesterton, IN. It was written March 15, 1997. The date of the photo is 1898. --------------------- I'm the grandson of Judge Charles P. Vicini, who served from 1925 to 1933 at the Jackson courthouse. He previously had been district attorney and a state assemblyman. The enclosed photgraph, a copy of the original, circa 1898, was taken in fron of G.B. Vicini's house, which still stands on Boston Alley, Sutter Creek, CA. He arrived in Panama from Genoa, Italy and walked to California, arriving in 1846 at age 13. He accumulated three cattle ranches, located in Sutter Creek, Drytown and Butte Mountain. He built two hotels, the Summit House, and one togethr with a boot and saddle shop, identified by a bronze plague on the main street of Sutter Creek. He bought the National Hotel in Jackson, which was managed by his son Steve until his death in 1912 and then by Steve's wife Jeanette and their son John until 1965. The photograph shows G.B. Vicini's wife and the families of their three sons, Charles, Steve, and Henry. The photo fro left to right: Frances, wife of Charles, and her one year old son Hoit, my Uncle. Charles Vicini, Jeanette, wife of Steve Vicini, holding son, Clay, in front of their daughter Frances and son John. Clay died at 17 from an appendicitis operation conducted on the kitchen table. Francis married Charlie TAMM and they both died in the 1918 influenza epidemic and left a 3 day old daughter, Bayonna, who died recently. Next to Jeanette is her husband Steve Vicini followed by the family patriarch, GB Vicini, his wife Katherine, also a native of Genoa and at her feet, a grandson, Henry, who died in the 1918 influenza leaving a wife Lilly. Henry and Lilly's son Don and his family still reside in Jackson. Their other son, Marvin is deceased. One the extreme right is Henry "Rick" Vicini, father of Henry and his daughter, Hester is sitting on his lap, who were born by his first wife, who had died in a prior year. "Rick" later married Minerva "Minnie" who gave him two sons, Frank and Vernon. Vernon passed away two years ago and his wife, Billie, resides in Plymouth, CA. Frank, at age 88 lives in Brook, OR. "Rick's" chief responsibility was running GB's ranches. My mother, Margaret (Vicini) Hubbs is not shown because she wasn't born until 1902. Judge C.P. Vicini was defeated by another Italian, CAMINETTI, in a bitter primary election in 1933, and he and Frances moved to San Francisco where he worked for the Federal Trade Commission until his death in 1941. End. ---------------- The reason for my interest in G.B.Vicini, is because he is the brother to my ggg grandfather Peter Vicini. My Greatgrandmother, Anna, his oldest daughter was born in Richmond, VA. in 1861. I have yet to find out their story. My research starts literally in San Francisco for Peter in 1867. So anything I find on his brothers hopefully will help me with "The Rest Of The Story" Jean Hehn
