He was a son to John Elkins and a grandson to the Rev. War Fame Col. Jonathan ELKINS of Peacham, Vermont. James came to Sutter Creek, Amador Co. ca 1860's and married Adaline HAMILTON 10 December 1868. She was the daughter of Spencer and Hannah MORROW HAMILTON. James died in 1900 in Amador Co.
