Posted on: Amador County Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ca/Amador/294 Surname: F, G, H ------------------------- Hello Amador County Researches, I just returned from a week-long visit to Jackson, CA (Amador County seat) researching my Amadorian ancestors. The Amador County Archives is an amazing place in terms of its collection! If you have an opportunity to visit, DO IT! I brought home several pages of documents which contain various family names beginning with the letter "G" and, in a few instances "F" and "H" and would be happy to do "look-ups" for those of you who may be searching for info. Specifically, I have 1892 voter registrations for the Jackson area "Finn" to "Hayden"; "Gartlin" to Ginter"; 1894 voter registrations for "Gallagher" to "Graham" and "Gooding" to "Granville" 1868 Poll List -- Jackson Precinct "Frei" to "Holtz" 1874 Birth Register - McCoy, Quin, and Going 1875 or 1876 (difficult to read) Birth Register - Samuels, Gairo, Davis, Wall, Salubi, Nattan, Gairo 1914 School Register for the Kennedy Flat School listing names of all students attending that year, with ages. 1. [CAAMADOR] possible genealogy scam
    2. Subj: possible genealogy scam Date: 09/03/2000 6:30:57 AM Mountain Daylight Time From: plfleming@shelbynet.net (Phyllis Fleming) Reply-to: INSHELBY-L@rootsweb.com To: INSHELBY-L@rootsweb.com Shelbers, I received this message after it was forwarded to the INGENWEB state coordinator: >>About 2 weeeks ago we received a complaint from an Archives submitter that her materials were found on a genealogy subscription service: www.familydiscovery.com The submitter was able to do a little digging and found that they were linking to her files housed on her server, but shrink-wrapped inside a frame so it appears to be THEIR work. About 10 days ago, to investigate this, I signed up with familydiscovery. To date, I have not received a user id or password to get inside. The registered owners of the web site gave bogus telephone numbers in their registration. One number goes to a recorded message line; the other to a carpet company. Some of the e-mail addys on their web site bounce. Standing on the outside and looking through the window, it appears that several folks' web sites have been prize-mined: http://www.familydiscovery.com/whatsnew.htm The Storey Co., IA and the Washington Co., PA stuff seem to come from USGenWeb sites. Some of the other IA and NC stuff seems to come from non-USGW sites. None of the materials seem to be housed at either rootsweb or usgennet. I would suggest we all add the Java applet to bust out of the shrink-wrapping: <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> <!-- Hide script from old browsers if (top.location !=self.location) { top.location = self.location } // End hiding script from old browsers --> </SCRIPT> This needs to be inserted between and <TITLE> on every web page. If you have text files on your web site, you will need to add a little shrink wrapping of your own: Create a blank web page -- use the tags --- and paste your text file in between the and the -- and be sure to add the Java applet. If anyone out there is or has been a member of familydiscovery -- or has been ripped off by them, I ["Joy Fisher" <jfisher@ucla.edu>] would like to hear from you. 1. [CAAMADOR] John GIUSTO, an early Amador pioneer
    2. carolynjnash
    3. Still working on Amador Giustos. John GIUSTO was born June 13, 1834 in the Genoa area, to James Giusto and Katy Achinilli, according to his death certificate, and was an early Jackson miner. Voter registration 11/24/1866: Giovanni Guisto, age 31 on 11/24/1866, born in Italy, resided in Clinton; naturalized 12/30/1854 in Amador Co. He had one daughter, Lottie Giusto who married Dominic Biagio Caminetti (son of Rocco Caminetti and Maria B. Giusto), as reported in the Amador Dispatch Nov 26, 1864: born in Clinton, Nov 22nd 1864 to John Gesto, a daughter. (Book 4 of Deaths, Amador County: Lottie Caminetti, born Nov. 22, 1865, Calif; died Feb. 4, 1918, Martell, aged 52 yrs 2 mos 13 dys. (note: birthdate wrong; was 1864)) He died Mar 6, 1922 at the Masonic Home in Decoto, Alameda County. His obit in the Amador Dispatch says he went there after he went blind. There's a little puzzle on wives, and apparently he was widowed twice. He's a miner in Jackson with no wife shown in 1860, and his daughter was born 1864. The Amador marrige index shows his marriage to Mrs. Augustina Marianni on 30 Dec 1868 (Book A, p. 351), and Judy transcribed the death of this woman in 1869: "In memoria di Aogostina Giusto, muglie di Giovanni Giusto, nata in Italia, mori il Giorno 29 Decembre 1869 de etta anni 28." This marriage is too late for her to be Lottie's mother, and Lottie's DC refers to her mother as "Angelina" Anybody have anything on the death of the earlier A. Giusto (or Justo) or Mrs. Justo?

The informant is a Charter Member of Ursula Parlor No. 1 N.D.G.W. and a Past Grand President and Permanent Member of the Grand Parlor. Have you checked the Pioneer Roster to see if there are records on your ancestors? Some of the records have bare information...name & death date...others have quite a bit. This one (in the misc section) gives a few nice clues. http://www.compuology.com/cpl/ndgw.htm And, if you haven't entered forms for your ancestors that came or were born in California before 1870, I urge you to do so. Those names are added to the index & others searching that name may be able to find you. (I have 26 family members eligible for the 1870 date that I am turning in). 1. [CAAMADOR] Amelia Curotto or Ginocchio , daughter of Julia Raggio Curotto Ginocchio
    2. carolynjnash
    3. Just sorted this out and didn't want this lady to get lost. Amelia was the daughter of Julia Raggio Curotto Ginocchio and Charles Curotto, according to information her sister Lena provided to the Native Daughters of the Golden West (thanks Jackie), but was married as Amelia Ginocchio. She married John A. Giusto of Sacramento, the son of Frank Giusto of Sacramento and his wife Maria Raggio, in Jackson on 5 Dec. 1895. The marriage was reported in both the Amador Dispatch (with thanks for the cake) and Sacramento Bee (5 Dec 1885: "In Jackson, Nov 21, John A Giusto of Sacramento to Amelia Ginocchio of Jackson"). Amelia Giusto died in Sacramento on May 8 1896. The Sacramento Bee reported her death on 10 May ("beloved wife of John Giusto. A native of Amador County, California, aged 20 years, 4 months and 8 days") and the Amador Dispatch obit said she was a daughter of Mrs. E. Ginocchio. John A. Giusto is in the NDGW files as John Alexander Guisto in information provided by his daughter Mary Ready from his second marriage; the first marriage is not mentioned.
