Those researching names in Amador County might want to try the Amador County site http://www.cagenweb.com/~amador/. There have been various entries from the county newspaper extracted & entered into that site. Wish I could connect into the Brown name. My Brown's settled in Calaveras county, and although one moved to Amador County, I've hit a big snag. (Course I've hit snags with my Dawson/Nichols search too, so guess I better get used to it!). Posted on: Amador County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ca/Amador/331 Surname: BROWN, PETERSON ------------------------- I am looking for an address or source who can direct me to finding out about a death of JAMES BROWN in Jackson, Amador County, CA 5th of May 1870. this info I obtained from a publication in the Sacramento Bee 8th of May 1870. I do not know if this is my 2nd Great Grandfather. My James Brown married Kizziah PETERSON in Coles County, IL in July 1838. They were the parents of George Washington, William Thomas, Issac Francis, John M., James Havey (my line), Squire A., Sarah A., Edward A., Andrew J. and 2 girls who died very young, Mary A., and Sophia. James and Kizziah lived for about 7 years in AR before moving to San Joaquin CA in 1852. Any help in this search for James BROWN b. about 1816 would be greatly appreciated. Carol

I am sending this, because so many on the list have sent me various things about the Vicini family and you will recognize how it fits. First of all I received a 8x10 glossy of GB Giovanni and his family, all in front of his house in Sutter Creek, from the Amador County Archives. The letter that accompanied this photo is written by Robert Hubbs, grandson to Charles P. Vicini. Robert Hubbs living in Chesterton, IN. It was written March 15, 1997. The date of the photo is 1898. --------------------- I'm the grandson of Judge Charles P. Vicini, who served from 1925 to 1933 at the Jackson courthouse. He previously had been district attorney and a state assemblyman. The enclosed photgraph, a copy of the original, circa 1898, was taken in fron of G.B. Vicini's house, which still stands on Boston Alley, Sutter Creek, CA. He arrived in Panama from Genoa, Italy and walked to California, arriving in 1846 at age 13. He accumulated three cattle ranches, located in Sutter Creek, Drytown and Butte Mountain. He built two hotels, the Summit House, and one togethr with a boot and saddle shop, identified by a bronze plague on the main street of Sutter Creek. He bought the National Hotel in Jackson, which was managed by his son Steve until his death in 1912 and then by Steve's wife Jeanette and their son John until 1965. The photograph shows G.B. Vicini's wife and the families of their three sons, Charles, Steve, and Henry. The photo fro left to right: Frances, wife of Charles, and her one year old son Hoit, my Uncle. Charles Vicini, Jeanette, wife of Steve Vicini, holding son, Clay, in front of their daughter Frances and son John. Clay died at 17 from an appendicitis operation conducted on the kitchen table. Francis married Charlie TAMM and they both died in the 1918 influenza epidemic and left a 3 day old daughter, Bayonna, who died recently. Next to Jeanette is her husband Steve Vicini followed by the family patriarch, GB Vicini, his wife Katherine, also a native of Genoa and at her feet, a grandson, Henry, who died in the 1918 influenza leaving a wife Lilly. Henry and Lilly's son Don and his family still reside in Jackson. Their other son, Marvin is deceased. One the extreme right is Henry "Rick" Vicini, father of Henry and his daughter, Hester is sitting on his lap, who were born by his first wife, who had died in a prior year. "Rick" later married Minerva "Minnie" who gave him two sons, Frank and Vernon. Vernon passed away two years ago and his wife, Billie, resides in Plymouth, CA. Frank, at age 88 lives in Brook, OR. "Rick's" chief responsibility was running GB's ranches. My mother, Margaret (Vicini) Hubbs is not shown because she wasn't born until 1902. Judge C.P. Vicini was defeated by another Italian, CAMINETTI, in a bitter primary election in 1933, and he and Frances moved to San Francisco where he worked for the Federal Trade Commission until his death in 1941. End. ---------------- The reason for my interest in G.B.Vicini, is because he is the brother to my ggg grandfather Peter Vicini. My Greatgrandmother, Anna, his oldest daughter was born in Richmond, VA. in 1861. I have yet to find out their story. My research starts literally in San Francisco for Peter in 1867. So anything I find on his brothers hopefully will help me with "The Rest Of The Story" Jean Hehn
I have a question. Was it common for an Italian to request in his will that he be buried as a Catholic? My Great grandfather made this request in his will and I always thought that if you were Italian it was presumed that you would be buried Catholic. Giacomo Raggio's will is at the archives in Jackson. There are also some deeds to property in this file. Mostly land transactions between Giocomo Raggio, John Devoto, Gio Batto (Giovanni Battista) Botto, Pietro Gatto, and Giovani Labardini. Carol in Reno

Daughter Clara was born Boston 1844. Francesco (Frank) married Paulina CHIAPARELLI in Jackson 1854, later raised a large family in SF. Angelo GIUSTO died by 1889 leaving a daughter Francesca, possibly in NJ. I'm interested in sharing information on the family with other descendants.

-------- Original Message -------- Subject: {not a subscriber} WOOSTER surname Date: Mon, 9 Oct 2000 17:14:35 -0700 From: Diana Knight <knight@roguewave.com> To: "'CAAMADOR-L@rootsweb.com'" <CAAMADOR-L@rootsweb.com>,"'CATULARE-L@rootsweb.com'" <CATULARE-L@rootsweb.com>,"'CATEHAMA-L@rootsweb.com'" <CATEHAMA-L@rootsweb.com> CC: Diana Knight <knight@roguewave.com> I have run across a dilemma I'm hoping someone can help me with. Does anyone have information about the WOOSTER family in Amador County, specifically Clarence M. Wooster? The entry below lists Clarence WOOSTER as the grandson of Abner CLOUGH who I believe to be brother to Orson CLOUGH who is my great grandfather. he 1870 Amador Census lists the following WOOSTER children living with Orson CLOUGH and family: Edwin E., Clarence M., Caroline L., Lena J., and Austin Zylpha (at least I think they are all WOOSTER children). Entries below state Clarence WOOSTER to be a cousin in the first note and grandson to Abner CLOUGH in the second which would confirm that Abner and Orson could be brothers. W.A. Liversedge born in Volcano, and a member of the famous Hook and Ladder Co resides on an old Clough Ranch. He married Miss Katie Herbert, a daughter of that old pioneer lady, Mrs Orson Clough and sister of Hilda, Elizabeth and Grace Clough and of W.E Herbert, owner of the Sierra Marzana? Ranch near Pine Grove where CLARENCE WOOSTER, a cousin was born. Pg 86 Pine Grove Clarence Wooster, grandson of Abner Clough is a story teller and writer of rare ability. A Royal Battle. C.M. WOOSTER. A bear fight about 1970 at Dope? Ridge near West Point on the Clough-Walker Cattle Ranch. I ran across another CLOUGH family in Tulare County also tied to the WOOSTER family. Looks like a double line if I can figure it out. The family listed is as follows: Zebulon Montgomery Pike CLOUGH with wife Lucy LEE whom he married in Tehama County. They have a Berdina WOOSTER residing with them and listed as daughter to Zebulon. Zebulon Montgomery Pike CLOUGH can also be found amongst general information in Tehama County including some information regarding his son George Arthur CLOUGH. I'm sure it is the same person because the birth dates for George fit correctly. To really spice up the pot, there is also an Orrison CLOUGH b. about 1825 in MO who has a son named William A. CLOUGH. I have seen this name before but wrote it off because this man and my Orson CLOUGH were years apart in age and born nowhere near each other. Yet they have a very similar name and both named their son's William. There is no way this Tehama-Amador-Tulare connection is not related. Does anyone have information that could help me find this CLOUGH-WOOSTER link? Diana Busby-Knight Oregon
