Calaveras Prospect, May 10, 1924 Mrs. Catherine Margaret (Peirano) Vicini, a pioneer resident of Sutter Creek died at her home in that city Wednesday morning. The deceased was as esteemed citizen of Amador County for the past fifty-two years and during the years spent in that county she won the love of a legion of friends. The deceased was born in the province of Genoa, Italy, September 21, 1816 and came with her parents to Philadelphia in 1855. The family later returned to Italy where they remained until 1859 when she came with her father to Robinson's Ferry, now known as Melones, Calaveras county. While there she met GB VICINI whome she married at San Andreas, June 17, 1863. Her husband in those years was engaged in mining and for several years couple lived at Angeles Camp. In 1872 Mr. and Mrs. Vicini moved to Sutter Creek where they have resided ever since. The husband first engaged in the mercantile business and of late years most of his interests were concentrated in stock raising. Mr. and Mrs. Vicini have lived an ideal married life and have shown the greatest affection for each other. The hearts of the people of the county go out to the afflicted relatives. Surviving her are: a husband, GB VICINI, of Sutter Creek; two sons, Henry J. VICINI of Drytown and Judge CP VICINI of Jackson; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Jean Hehn

Posted on: Amador County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ca/Amador/352 Surname: Thomas, Peyton ------------------------- No, my mother didn't even know her father had a sister named Katie. I found this information through the Amador County archives in a book written by Elsie E. Dixon, "The Shenandoah Valley of Amador County, California, 1854-1904." I found many relatives of my grandfather's there--what a jackpot! I would be interested in what you know! Wait a minute--married in 1795 or, perhaps, 1895? From the birthdate I have for Katie, that would make her 15 at date of marriage (if 1895).

There were several Longinotti/Longinetti in the 1860 Amador census, apparently siblings, per papers in the probate file of Augustino Longinotti in 1861 (brothers Giuseppi and Dominico, sister Augustina). Our Giustos have two links to Longinotti --- the second wife of Gregorio Giusto, father of early Amador pioneers Clara Giusto Caminetti Campi and Maria Battistina Giusto Caminetti, was Apolonia Longinotti, whom he married in Boston about 1850. There is also a strong possibility that Augustina Longinotti was Mrs. Aogostina Mariannia, the second wife of John Giusto of Amador Co. Is anyone researching the Longinotti family? I'd be interested in comparing notes. Carol Nash carolynjnash@compuserve.com

Father a "Yankee" and mother of Spanish descent. His mother was born CA. His mother's name BARNUM was written on my grandfather's christening records of which a copy was obtained by him in 1941 as he didn't have a birth certificate and needed to verify his age for draft purposes in WWII. On my grandfather's social security application he has written "mother's maiden name PENDOLA" He had written something else but had erased it. This last name was verified from his brother's application. Came across an abstract of his parents marriage application. Carlos de GANNA and Mary Martha SOLIS. THe license was issued in Pine Grove, Esmeralda, NV. And her sister Francis PENDOLA also married the next year in Pine Grove. On a death notice, it is listed that in 1889, Carlos de GANA and Mary Martha BARNUM had a stillborn child. On obit for Mary Martha's mother, Feliciana PENDOLA, in 1891, it says she mother of Mrs A. Woods(Francis) and Mrs C. de Ganna(Mary Martha). I haven't found a marriage record for their mother yet a Feliciana SOLICE married a Bennet PENDOLA 27 Jan 1880 in SHeep Ranch, Calaveas,CA. The witnesses......Allen M. Woods and wife Francis. He wouldn't be father of the girls as they were born 1852/54. To add to the confusion, a Feliciana PENDOLA and dau Francis are living next door to the de GANNAs. Though I was pleased to find an abstract of Mary Martha's marriage to Carlos, it adds to the name confusion. Who is this lady? Any thoughts out there? ______________________________<

H. Payne, 2 others, James' occupation listed as "gentleman." John Sheckels (b. 1833 VA), listed in Township 2 with Hure family, 2 other individuals, and was a miner. A third brother, Hezekiah (b. 1830 VA) was in Calaveras Co. in 1860 and was a miner. All three were sons of Peter Sheckels (d. 1849 in MO) and Elizabeth Harris (1794-1870s). The family originally lived in Frederick Co., VA, and moved to MO in the 1830's, living in several counties in northern MO. All three disappeared from CA by 1870, but did not return to MO. There is family tradition that places one or more of them in Colorado, but no VA-born Sheckels were found in later censuses. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
