Posted on: Amador County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ca/Amador/380 Surname: Chaix, Estey ------------------------- Zella Chaix was my great grandmother. I don't have a lot of information on that side of the family other than her father's name was Sixte (1854-1931) and her mother was Elizabeth (1862-1943) Zella was the second wife of Grant Smith Esty. I have a lot of information on the Estey's (including first family of Grant Smith) and am happy to share. Can you get me info on the Chaix family? Thanks.

Hi...just wanted you all to know that I'm still keeping my eyes open.... Having the opportunity to look through some old correspondence of the Native Daughters in Jackson, and trying to remember the names the Amador List is searching for, this is what I found: ND had (could still have, I suppose) a benefit form that when filled out by an eligible member, the member would be reimbursed for time she was ill. Included on that form was a "visiting committee" two week list and that is where I found your names. These ladies were really diligent in their duties. So all the names that will follow were members of Ursula Parlor in Jackson. These were from 1930-1943 Janie M. Flagg (she was listed on the visiting committee on almost every early form I saw) Carrie Calvin Dec 1932 had injured her forearm...Dr. Lowe...1933 sprained right knee...1934 heart trouble Rose Ginocchio Podesta had apoplexy...Dr. B.C. Kern These next ladies served on various committees: Mary Raggio Velma Raggio B. Laughton Rose Cuneo Ella E. Caminetti Amelia Greve Theresa Raggio Elvira Guisto Mary P. Guisto There were a couple of receipts that interested me.. One was Mother Lode Market, Raggio Bros. Props. July 1936 (check out these prices) Mushrooms .50 Butter .22 Noodles .60 Oil .40 2# nuts .50 Don't you just love it???? The other receipt was Jackson Home Laundry, Mrs. C.C. Green Prop. 1932 9 tablecloths $1.75 That was my paternal grandmother. I knew she always had what was called a "mangle" & did washing but never thought about her having an actual business. She also ran a maternity home in Jackson, my dad made wooden cribs. Not for sure if she was connected with the Betty Wiley Maternity Home or not. The C.C. was my grandfather's name....Christopher Columbus. Jackie in California kimmee@volcano.net

Hi Betty...believe this is one of yours.... This is taken from a Native Daughters of the Golden West Memoriam for Rose Ginocchio Podesta. IN MEMORIAM "She has gone out on her quiet journey, Seeking a goal too great for us to know; But she will not be tired, For there is only rest where she will go." On November 28th, 1933, the members of Ursula Parlor No. One, Native Daughters of the Golden West, sustained a loss at the hand of the Great Reaper,-the passing of one of our Past Presidents, Sister Rose Ginocchio Podesta. We grieve for those whom God has chosen to remove from our midst, but we are comforted by the thought that they are at peace. Be it Resolved: That in the loss of sister Rose Podesta, Ursula Parlor has been bereft of one who was ever ready to lend a helping hand to those in need or distress, and to contribute of her means and of her efforts toward every worthy cause. Be it further Resolved: That we extend to the sorrowing husband and sisters, our heart-felt sympathy; that these Resolutions be entered upon our members, and a copy sent to the members of the family; and that our charter be draped for thirty days in memory of our departed sister. "In that still country that she travels over, Past the last star lifted against the night, There will be many a smile to welcome her, Greetings, and a friendly light." (signed) Emma Boarman Wright-Chairman Flora Podesta & Rose A. Carley-committee Catherine Swensen-President (There is a thank you card for memorial offering from Frank Podesta & Ginocchio Family).
