    1. [CAAMADOR] The Port of Galveston
    2. The Port of Galveston The port of Galveston, on Texas' gulf coast, was an important immigration center during much of the nineteenth century. Certinly for people from Central America and the Caribbean, but especially for Germanic immigrants, who founded many early Texas towns. Regular compilation of arrival records for the port of Galveston began in 1846, the year after Texas gained statehood. Microfilm copies of the largest portion of these lists, and indexes to them, are available through the U.S. National Archives, the Family History Library, and Family History Centers. Like many other records, transcriptions and indexes to arrival lists from Galveston are beginning to show up on the Internet.
