You think Sacramento is slow. In March of 1999 the VA in Oakland Ca gave me a file number and told me there was a backlog. I called them Dec 99, twice in 2000, still a backlog. Last week I called and was told the records came thru and were returned to the National Archives in San Bruno!!! VA told me if I didn't get a copy then they were lost in the mail and I would have to start the process over again.
"Dirt Roads" What's mainly wrong with society today is that too many Dirt Roads have been paved. There's not a problem in America today -- crime, drugs, education, divorce, delinquency, that wouldn't be remedied, if we just had more Dirt Roads, because Dirt Roads give character. People that live at the end of Dirt Roads learn early on that life is a bumpy ride. That it can jar you right down to your teeth sometimes, but it's worth it, if at the end is home...a loving spouse, happy kids and a dog. We wouldn't have near the trouble with our educational system if our kids got their exercise walking a Dirt Road with other kids, from whom they learn how to get along. There was less crime in our streets before they were paved. Criminals didn't walk two dusty miles to rob or rape, if they knew they'd be welcomed by 5 barking dogs and a double barrel shotgun. There were no drive-by shootings. Our values were better when our roads were worse! People did not worship their cars more than their kids, and motorists were more courteous. They didn't tailgate by riding the bumper, or the guy in front would choke you with dust, and bust your windshield with rocks. Dirt Roads taught patience. Dirt Roads were environmentally friendly. You didn't hop in your car for a quart of milk - You walked to the barn for your milk. For your mail, you walked to the mail box. What if it rained and the Dirt Road got washed out? That was the best part, then you stayed home and had some family time, roasted marshmallows, and popped popcorn and pony-rode on Daddy's shoulders, and learned how to make prettier quilts than anybody. At the end of Dirt Roads, you learned that bad words tasted like soap. Most paved roads lead to trouble. Dirt Roads more likely lead to a fishing creek, or a swimming hole. At the end of a Dirt Road, the only time we even locked our car was in August, because if we didn't, some neighbor would fill it with too much zucchini. ~~author unknown~~ Shelley ~~if better is possible then good is not enough....~~

Posted on: Amador County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ca/Amador/406 Surname: Asbury, Barone, Dotta, Lavezzo, Orsi, Smallfield, Sucich ------------------------- I am looking for information on ancestors in Amador, Calaveras and Touloumne Counties. The Smallfields may have emigrated from New York via Missouri to Touloumne County. I do know that my greatgrandfather Dotta came from Airola, Switzerland. It is possible that the Barone name was originally Ming, not sure of spelling, and that the patriarc came from Italy or possibly France and that he eventially went to South America where he died.

Posted on: Amador County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ca/Amador/399 Surname: Trujillo ------------------------- I have one picture of my grandfather, it'a a wedding picture. If I can figure out how to scan it, I'll try to put in on the internet in "Ancient Faces", a website that I found. I would appreciate seeing your Trujillo family connection. I have read sooo many, and have seen no similarities to mine. My father, Vincent Trujillo was born in Atwood, CA, a town next to Placentia, CA in southern California, in 1926. Best Wishes, Roggie Trujillo
Posted on: Amador County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ca/Amador/396 Surname: Trujillo ------------------------- I actually do not know the where my grandfather is from. I always thought it was Zacatecas,Mexico, because that's what I had always heard. My grandfather,Aaron/Aron/Eron Trujillo, died at a very young age, I'm guessing appx 23 to 28 years of age. My grandmother remarried and my grandfather was not spoken of much. Now I'm dying of curiosity as to who this man was and where he was from. My understanding was that my grandfather had several brothers and they could have scattered throughout the state of CA, even to Amador county. Who knows. One brother, had a son named Roger Trujillo, who lived in southern Ca. Their mother, I was told, was named Tomasa/Tomasita Trujillo. This is all very vague information and of course, I'm still researching. I am sorry that I did not respond earlier, but I never realized how lost I could get on the internet. I did not make up folder and save websites when I first started. I thought I'd remember them all, silly me. Thanks, Roggie

Hello from a new subscriber - These are my husband's ancestors who settled in Amador County in the 1850's and 1860's: Henry Thomas White, b 5-19-1850 IA, d 2-1-1919 CA, married Imogene May Matthis, b 6-5-1861 Amador Co, d 5-6-1935 Amador Co; married 8-26-1880 in Jackson. Henry's parents were James Johnson White, b c 1825 PA, d after 1882 Amador Co, and Jane Hannah Kerr, b 1830 PA, d 10-7-1876 Amador Co. Other children: John, Marietta, Elizabeth, Harper, Sarah, Robert and Rose. May's parents were George M. L. Matthis, b 1827 KY, d 9-18-1891 Amador Co, and Mary Aurelia Lawrence, b 1832 IL, d 6-20-1866 Amador Co. Other children: John G., Mary A., and Helen. I noticed while searching the CAAMADOR-L archives that there were quite a few references to Whites and Kerrs in the newspaper extracts. I have info that says the White and Kerr families traveled together from the midwest, including Jane's brothers John and Dave Kerr, and John's wife and young daughter. Apparently young Dave had been in CA already and was sent back to Iowa to help his siblings and their families make the move to California, so that suggests there may have been other siblings who remained in Amador County. If anyone can connect with any of these families, I'd love to hear from you. Linda
