In his latter years he was cared for by two nieces as indicated in the subject line. I am seaching for information on those ladies in hope of learning more about Flint and his brother Silas who resided in Volcano for only a few years - died in 1877. If any of you have information, I would love to hear from you. Bob Arcadia, CA

Posted on: Amador County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ca/Amador/10428 Surname: ------------------------- Hi Judy - I was in Amador County this past week-end and visited the Volcano Cemetery as well as seeing Larry Cenotto, Archivist for Amador County. He was able to give me copies of newspaper articles and other information which was most interesting. I walked all over the cemetery trying to find Flint's and Silas' graves but no luck. Apparently their grave stones have been destroyed or covered up. In any event, Larry and his assistant were most helpful. I now have a copy from the Friday, Feb. 8, 1907, issue of The Amador Ledger. It is 2 columns and takes the entire length of the page. Flint was, indeed, a prominent citizen of the County. I also have a copy of page 35 of the 1927 "Amador County History" published by the Womens' Club. It details the Admission Day celebration featuring a prairie schooner with a team furnished by Uncle Flint. I also have the obituary appearing in the Amador Ledger. They gave me a plot plan for the cemetery, so I knew about where to look for the graves, but they were not to be found. I do have the inscriptions from the grave markers. They were buried in block 4-B, graves No. 275 and 276. I was there two years ago but didn't have time to find the cemetery, so my visit was not exactly fruitful, so I am glad I hit paydirt this time. I would really like to hear from you to compare notes. When you have a minute drop me a line. Your cousin, Bob Arcadia, CA

This was a public works project that was required by the Public Resources Code and the Health and Safety Code to remove all known and unknown graves. According to law (don't laugh), EBMUD must keep the records. Additionally, these were like COUNTY PUBLIC cemeteries and the board of supervisors of Amador County would also have been required to keep the relocation records. Don't take NO for an answer. My great aunt, Ida May CLOUGH, resided with them for a period of time during 1860. This intrigued me as I've been searching for information relating to the divorce of her parents, Orson CLOUGH (Pine Grove and Volcano, Amador, CA) and Julia MARSH-CLOUGH (Three Rivers, Tulare,CA). The divorce, birth of my great grandmother and Julia's subsequent remarriage all occurred within a short time in 1860. The following information was obtained from "The Shenandoah Valley of Amador County, California 1854-1904" by Elsie Dixon. I have capitalized surnames for easier recognition. SURFACE I. Posted on: Amador County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ca/Amador/10402 Surname: Giusto, Patrone, Bacigalupo, Oneto, Ghio ------------------------- I saw the following posting on a user list regarding NW Italy Geneaology and thought it would be useful for someone: Giusto and other 1842 Genoa departures Posted by Carol Nash on Mon, 02 Apr 2001 Surname: Giusto, Patrone I spent a couple of mornings last week in the Genoa federal archives (Archivio di Stato di Genova) looking at ships passenger lists from 1842. In the period from March 1842 to early 1843, there were only three ships direct to "gli Stati Uniti" (the US, no city specified). There were lots of ships to the expected nearby European destinations and a surprising number to Montevideo (they had found fold there, also) as well as a few to Buenos Aires and Rio. The ships to the US were the S. Cloud (or possibly the S. Clara -- it was really hard to read) leaving Genova on 23 Aug 1842, the Susanna on June 27 and the Logan on 1 December. A lot of the passenger's names show up early in Boston and later in Amador Co. California. My ancestor Gregorio GIUSTO left Genova on 1 December 1942 on the Logan with "a companion" (his wife, almost certainly --- but Genoan women did not change their names on marriage, and the entry looked like a copy from the US log) and three (unnamed) children. The entry identified him simply as being from Sardenia (which is what Genoa was part of then) and going to the US. The only other passenger on this ship was, as best I could decipher it, a Felice Prrigori from Austria. Passengers on the S. Cloud or S. Clara from Genoa to the US were: Molinelli, Angelo, 29 Oneto, Giobatta, 29 Massa, Giacomo, 34 Gandolfo, GioVatta, 67 Bacigalupo, Vincenzo, 39 Molinelli, Angelo, 18 all listed as from Sardenia Passengers on the Susanna from Genoa to the US were: Massa, Antonio, 29 Arata, Giuseppi, 26 Ginocchio, Angelo, 26 Longinotto, Giuseppe, 29 Devoto, Luigi, 35, with his (unidentified) wife Arrata, Antonio, 12 Arrata, Luigi, 42 Botto, Domenico, 22 Massa, Gio.Batta, 24 Arrata, Giovanni, 29 Botto, Agostino, 21 Zannone, GioBatta, 22 (not sure about the age) Botto, Agostino, 26 Ghio, Giuseppe, 17 Brichetto, Giovanni, 38 Botto, Giacomo, 26 Nossano, GioBatta, 30 Zannone, Andrea, 14 Boggiano, Giacomo, 22 Botto, Domenico, 22 Ghio, Angelo, 27 Zachella, Giacomo, 33, with son Boro, Gio.Francesco, 22 Boro, Antonio, 60 The St. Cloud also had these passengers for Marseille (France): Galleano, Giuseppe, 23 Galleano, Girolamo, 57 Galleano, Benedette, 66 Bachigalupo, Bernardo, 28 Bachigalupo, Domenico, 32 Boggiano, Gio Batta, 22 (I think) all listed as from Sardenia These two ships lists were in the volume titled "Sanita 1619"; the Logan was in Sanita 1620.
