Radine, Francesca Caminetti, daughter of Rocco & Batesti Caminetti was born sometime between 1863-1868. We don't have a clue of exactly when. Could please you be watching for her name on your microfilm? Steve
Bill, My G grandmother was born in August 1871 at Jackson, but don't have the specific date. Could you be watching for it? Her name was Aida ("Addie") Caminetti, daughter of Rocco & Batesti. Since they couldn't read or write, who knows if it was ever even reported? I guess we'll find out. I see you will be examining the newspapers for that period. Thanks, Steve
Abbie, I see that your microfilm will cover 1902. Will you please watch for my G grandmother's obituary. She was Aida ("Addie") Caminetti Hintmann, died 12 Feb 1902 in Jackson. Her last child, Ada Hintmann, died sometime in 1903. I don't have a date yet. After her mother died, her father gave her to the Frugulia family that had a ranch next to Anthony & Ella Caminetti's ranch on what is now Prevatali Road off Hwy. 88. It could be that they were far enough out that there was no Dispatch obit. However, she is buried in Jackson City Cemetery. Thanks! Steve
Pam, You've already contributed by joining the list. Look forward to working with you on Amador County history and ancestry. I suspect you are related, through a few cousins, to Steve Illum in MO. My Amador ancestors are CULBERT, TIBBITTS, TUCKER, PARSONS. Welcome to the group, it can get very lively and interesting at times. Be certain to visit the Amador County GenWeb site at http://www.rootsweb.com/~caamador/ Welcome aboard! Hello - I recently joined the list and thought I would introduce myself. I'm Pam Hajny, great grand daughter of Anthony B. Caminetti, Eliza Ellington Martin, Dominic J. Burke, and Josephine K. Steve, I received a nice note from Larry Cenotto. He pointed out that I had confused the classic Amador Hotel we know today, with the "Hotel in Amador City, owned by C. Lagomarsino," that was in the 1878 Ledger article. The Lagomarsino Hotel that burned in the Amador City fire of 1878 was on the site where the Imperial Hotel now stands. After the fire of 1878 it was rebuilt as the Italian Hotel. The name was changed in later years to White's Hotel, and still later to the Imperial Hotel. Hope this helps to clear up any confusion I may have caused. Best Regards, Bill
Seems this list has gotten mighty quiet. Here's a couple items that caught my eye while doing the Dispatch project. February 18, 1898 Amador Dispatch Frank BELEW , self-confessed poisoner of brother and sister at Dixon, held over without bail. His should be a short shrift and a stout rope. July 8, 1898 Amador Dispatch Camp Opera Hog Skin HORTON is papa of another baby boy. He says he is going to call him "Sugar-foot Jones" because he is so big. March 10, 1899 Amador Dispatch Justly Proud Jackson...Chris MARELIA is as happy as a boy with a new top. Cause is a present to him by his wife of a girl baby, which came to bless their home on Monday last. Mr. MARELIA says this is the first girl baby born to the MARELIA'S family for more than 100 years. May 12, 1899...Amador Dispatch Eagles Captured Elmer HAMRICK and Marv GARDNER succeeded last Saturday in capturing a female American eagle and two eaglets in the hills about 2 miles above New York Ranch. Mr. HAMRICK will bring them to Jackson and exhibit them within a short time.
Jackie, Leopoldo Caminetti married & divorced a Theresa Lagomarsino. It seems like she must have been part of this Lagomarsino family, but don't know how. Steve, In Larry Cenotto's, Logan's Alley (Amador County Yesterdays....), Vol II, page 83, in describing the Amador County Steam laundry in Sutter Creek, he states the following: Wilfred Everett Proctor founded the laundry in 1895....About a decade before he died (1906), Proctor sold the laundry to Clarence E. Jarvis, who probably had managed the firm from its beginning. That same year, 1906, Jarvis began his first of three terms as county assessor. Four years being a laundryman and assessor must have been enough. In 1910, into his second term, he sold the laundry. Its buyer was William Lagomarsino, son of Italian immigrants Giacomo and Josephine who settled in Volcano in 1856. The family had other ventures, including the Volcano Telephone Company. Our 1927 county history says, "The Lagomarsino family might be called an 'industrial community' for here we find three sons and two daughters successfully engaged in one of the county's big industries...with father and mother live, Rose, Della, William, Edward, and Tobias....." The Lagomarsinos owned and operated the laundry, and blew its whistle for about 35 years. Circa 1945 they sold the business to Cecil R. "Bob" Barnes and Earl Dahl. Maybe a year or so after they took over a fire of unknown origin totally destroyed the 50 year old frame building bulging with the laundry. City and State fire units prevented the blaze from spreading to Oneto's and Marks' residences nearby. ARTICLE ----- AMADOR DISPATCH ---- June 15, 1878 "Hotel burned at Amador----- We learn the hotel kept by Mr. C. Lagomarsino at Amador City, was destroyed by fire this (Friday) morning. We were unable to get the full particulars as to the amount of loss sustained before going to press; but we are informed by a local insurance agent that the building and its contents were insured for $3500." 1927 HISTORY of AMADOR COUNTY p.84 Jack Lagomarsino, John Harker and Manuel Santirfo have been Odd Fellows for more that 50 years. All live within 10 miles of Volcano....The Lodge was instituted in 1854. p.125 The Lagomarsino family might be called an 'industrial community' for here we find three sons and two daughters successfully engaged in one of the county's big industries, The Aamdor Steam Laundry, which they bought from Clarence Jarvis in 1910. With father and mother aged respectively 87 and 84 years, live Rose, Della, William, Edward, and Tobias. Joe, in Volcano, owns the telephone service. They have recently invested in a large acreage above Volcano and have planted 1200 apple trees and 1500 grape vines. Fellow Listers, I find obscure notes in my files that haven't been read for years, somrtimes decades. Such was the case with thi piece of foolscap paper I found this morning that had some information on it that may be of help to someone researching in Amador County. The note was written by me, and dated August 1984. ( I learned several years ago to ALWAYS date everything I send to my files, and have attempted to abide by that ever since) The iformation was taken from the text below a photograph that was posted in the window of a Real Estate Office on Main Street, in Sutter Creek, CA. The title of the Photograph was; SUTTER CREEK BAND 1910 The names listed belw the photo were: TOP ROW: Fagusi, Leo Williams, Batchlor, Denison, Fred Rowe, Smithern, Roy Mervin, Fraser, Louie Canvin BOTTOM ROW: B. Barbieri, Rice, L.L. Cuneo, Shell, L. Barbieri, Cook, Netrini I apologize for not being able to provide a copy of the photo, which included the instruments that each band member played. Interested parties may have some success by contacting Larry Cenotto at the Amador County Archives. Larrry can be contacted at [email protected] Best Regards, Bill Baccus, Temecula, CA
Dear Marilyn, You cannot imagine how deeply thankful I am for the effort you put forth on my behalf. I have been "chasing" this, on & off, for over 15 years. I must admit that I could have been more aggressive, but I obviously came to the right place when I worked through the rootsweb network. Thank You NORCAL, AMADOR & GOLDRUSH Listers. The process works! I will take the information you have provided and follow up, forthwith. With Sincere gratitude to you and all the other "Listers" that offered information to help me along in this quest. Hi Bill...while working on the Amador Dispatch project, I ran across this DILLON. Maybe he can tie into you somehow. Taken from October 6, 1899. Under Local Items: T.B. DILLON was visible on our streets this week (meaning Jackson). Mr. DILLON is a consulting engineer for a mine in Arizona & one in Nevada County; & has interests in this county.
