Welcome Donna, be sure to check out our web site, as we are putting the personals, articles births, deaths, and ect . from the Amador dispatch newspaper. lots of goodies. Abigail
Hi Donna: Welcome aboard this great Amador county web site. I don't have much on the Hodge family but my ancestors include a MARY ALICE STEWART who was married to a LENARD M. HODGE on or about 10 August 1892. I am looking for any information on Washington Hart Stewart and Amanda Hall who are the parents of the above Mary Alice Stewart. I will dig around in my files for any information on the HODGE family. It might take me awhile but the old King Ranch up around Sutter Creek are intertwined with some of the Hodges. I'll do my best and see if I can find anything on your Hodge line. Good hunting and again thanks for becoming a member of this great and interesting and VERY active web site. >>Morris and Christina Southard Sparks left Illinois in 1852 and settled in >>Diamond Spgs Twp, El Dorado County. I have a Laskin W. Southard who married Ettie B. (Harding) the daughter of Alexander Leighton and Carmelia T. (Hubble) Harding of Amador County CA. They had the following children: William Southard b. abt 1877 Cora Southard b. abt 1879 Edward Southard b. abt 1881 Do you think their might be a connection? Carolyn
Donna, Nice to meet you. I believe we can connect with you, though we have few dates to go on. Actually, you aren't related to me, but to Pam Caminetti Hajny, another new member in our group. She'll come up for some air soon from her routine & discover you too. Her great grandmother was Eliza Ellington ("Ella") Martin. Ella's mother was Maria Frances Hodges, daughter of George Zigler Hodges & Eliza Drew. She also had a brother named George Hodges. You'll have to work with Pam a little more to hopefully establish a real connection. Do you have any other surnames from Amador Co. pioneers? And, WELCOME to our group! Sometimes it takes a team effort to figure these things out. Thanks Bob, for being so quick. I am naive enough to miss something like this too. I think we can all appreciate your attention to this detail. I agree with both of you. I don't care to be a part of any proprietary venture. We're in it for the fun and love, and excitement of discovery for ourselves . . . not to line anyone's pocketbook. I expressed my feelings about this issue during my first month of membership . . . to the point of probably exasperating some of you new friends on the list. Nothing makes me more obsessive in genealogy than to think that someone is lurking around trying to make a buck off my dead relatives. But, we all know they are out there in the bushes . . . writing newspaper articles, assembling old newspaper articles, creating tourist booklets, and more. I clearly identified two persons I knew of living in Amador County who were doing this, but others have more recently identified themselves. There are subtle ways of dealing with these situations. I am trying to locate records of my grandparents or great grandparents. This is all I know so far. My father was Henry Hodges, born in Sutter Creek (I think) in 1906. His mother was Adah (Higgins) Hodges (note different spelling of Adah) his father was George Hodges. I do not know the names of either set of great grandparents. I believe George had a sister named Grace Griffin who lived in Sutter Creek until her death approximately 30 or more years ago. Adah Higgins had a sister named Mamie, another sister named Sadie, and a brother (I think was named John). My father Henry had a brother named Cyril, a sister named Grace and I believe a brother named George who died at birth. I only wish I had paid more attention to the family history when I was younger. I know that Adah and George divorced (which must have been pretty scandalous at this time) and Adah moved to Sacramento. I do not know when or where George died, Adah died in 1958. I also believe that we are related to the Bawdens. I had heard that my relatives came here for the gold rush. I believe from either Wales or England. If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it. Thank you, [email protected]
Hi fellow listers..been a lot of discussion on obits, funeral notices, etc. In case you're not familiar with this site, I need to tell you about it. This site lists names, birth-death dates & state, taken from the little funeral programs. I submit to this site & what is done is you have these little programs (at least I do) from funerals you've attended. If someone looking at the site, sees a name they're interested in, they contact the submitter for more information. The site has really built up since I first submitted, so take a look around. It's certainly another good source for information. And, it's a great place to contribute the data from your little funeral programs so that someone else might find a lost member of their family.
