I'm beginning to think there is no microfilm, but the library assures me it often takes 6 weeks for such things. However, I can't imagine bored. Just would like to get started. Do you, by any chance, know where in Italy Peter Vicini came from? The Caminetti and Giusto families were also probably from Italy, but we don't know where to start looking there. Thought they might have been neighbors before coming over here. Thanks --pam -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [SMTP:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, May 28, 1999 9:07 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [CAAMADOR-L] VICINI Hello, Last night I asked where Jackson was located. Thank you for your responses, I did find it on the map. My research has brought me to Jackson, CA. I am researching my Greatgreatgrand parents, Peter VICINI and wife Catherine. They lived in San Francisco. Their first child Annie, was born in Virginia, she was my Great-grandmother. The other 4 children, were born in SF, Carrie, Angela, Stephen and Louisa. Peter was a Fruit Dealer. I have tracked them through the census, from 1880-1920. And it took me to Santa Clara, CA. Peter and Catherine retired to Santa Clara, after the fire and earthquake in SF. They were residing with John MENDEZ and his wife Louisa, and their 3 children, Stephan, Dorothy, and Harold. In the last couple of days, have found where Peter VICINI, born Sept. 25, 1835 in Italy, died October 12, 1910, burial Santa Clara. Informant Mrs. C.M. ROLLE or RALLO. There was also another VICINI that died in Santa Clara, by the name of Francis Ann. May or may not be related. When I asked about Catherine it was mentioned that Catherine may have been removed to Jackson, Amador County. No death was located in Santa Clara. In the 1920 census it shows Catherine (84) yrs. old. Any help would be most gratefully appreciated! Jean HEHN Colorado ==== CAAMADOR Mailing List ==== Amador County, California CAGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~caamador/

Hi Jean...Jackson is located in the Sierra Foothills of Northern California in Amador County. It's about 50 miles northeast of Sacramento which is the capitol. There are Vicini families still living there. As I was listening this evening to the horrible atrocities those people are being put through in Yugoslavia, I get this sick feeling in my gut. How could an entire nation be so mindless, guiltless. It's just so hard to understand why a nation of "Christians" won't rise up. Every day, I just feel so very blessed to live in the U.S.A. Yes, we are forced to contend with a few spineless, immoral animals, but at least they leave most of us alone for the better part. We need to take stock and take better care of our own future. I sincerely hope that the War Tribunal will use the highest of technology to prosecute and execute all those deserving. Those who aren't found by formal means, I hope their faces are recognized by their victimized, and can be taken care of quietly. This is just such an intolerable situation, and what can we possibly do about it? We have such an enormous debt to pay to our own ancestors who managed to reach our continent, and to lay a cornerstone to protect our rights. But it is too frightening to know that such events are occurring just around the other side of the globe. Steve
If you are as disgusted with [email protected] as I am, send your condolences for his future. Steve
This is not the proper forum for this kind of posting. There are mailing lists specifically created for this sort of material and you are asked to utilize them for such. I have finished pulling all the info I could out of the 1863-1867 newspapers and had put some of it on the data forms but since the data entry form has changed (or something), I can't seem to do that anymore. I read where there is 1100 entries a week or so, but I can't seem to find them to read them. I have written to Art a while back but I have not heard from him. Can anyone help? Thanks, Radine

Let's visit the vacation-to-Amador County idea again. I'm sure you've guessed that I've had some things come up that keep me wrestling on this thing. The greatest challenge we have is that my older teenage son has found 2 jobs. He's still doing landscaping like gangbusters, but he's also a full-time pharmacy tech at a local hospital now. We're trying to help him save every penny so he can meet a goal by mid-August when he's planning to leave home. Soooooooo, we've been supplying most of his transportation, delivering & picking him up a couple of times a day. We didn't expect more than one job out of him. And believe me, we can't complain, not even a little. He graduated from high school a semester early, and has been taking 2 classes at a local university. Last night he showed me the 2 A's he got in his classes. Can't complain about that either. We figure to keep him relieved of unnecessary expenses (car), and the distraction, is a good idea. We've done this same thing with our other 3 older children (now gone), and it seemed to produce better results that we observe with other families. For awhile, we were picking Ben up at 12:30 a.m. from one job, and we were beginning to wonder, but that's history & we've all been doing much better. Nevertheless, this pretty much wipes out our summer plans unless we can find some unwary friend to help us out. The other issue is that I have been assigned a role that I'm very exctied about this Summer. Unexpectedly, I'll be mentoring a fantastic young man who is finishing up his program at a local university who is doing an internship at an association for retarded citizens. The small catch is that he is 100% sight impaired. The worst/best part of the story is that his on-site administrator has never had an intern before, let alone him being her first intern. And then, there's my 1/4-acre vegetable garden. I've never done a better job at preparation for success. Last year, I lost about 90% of it because of drouth conditions. Some of you will think I'm a little crazy, but I refuse to water with city water. We live just outside the city limits in the county. City water is so chlorinated & chemicaled that it nearly kills plants. It barely keeps them alive, but no growth. This last Winter, I picked up twenty-five 55-gal. pvc drums with screw-on lids. I keep them full of rain water, refilling whenever it pours. And, I've been mulching with about 2 feet of grass clippings everywhere, and will keep adding until the plants won't let me. Keeps the weeds down & moisture in. My beets have grown up 18" tall, for example. This is something I hate to leave behind because it's always such a disaster when I return home from a vacation. I've got a real dilemma here. The biggest part of it is that I want to see my Mom who just turned 80. So right now, it looks like we're not going to be in the game for this Summer. We're going to try to come out for Christmas & New Year's. I realize that is the worst possible time probably, if we want to meet anyone there from the Mailing List. And, I don't suggest that anyone try it outside of Jackie. She's already there, but may not even be in town. We will only be in Amador Co. for a couple of days in this case. I wish I could "have my cake & eat it too," but it's just not working out. And, I knew I would have to tell you soon. Ouch! Steve
Abbie, I'm not gone, still here. Waiting impatiently for my film from CSL. Found out that my film was checked out by someone else, so ordered a different one. That's no problem since I was really tied down on time over the past 2 weeks. Now I'm home free & just waiting for the film. Been gardening & doing windows, all but 2 done now. Harvested our first wheelbarrow full of beets/greens yesterday. Got all my sweet potatoes planted. Potatoes are blossoming. Everything looks great except for those hopping objects in the yard! I posted another photo with Art yesterday. You guys are sure keeping him busy lately.
