    3. Posted on: Amador County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ca/Amador/281 Surname: SHORTELL, HALL, SLEIGHT ------------------------- Searching for connections on my gggrandmothers first husband. Her name was Anna SHORTELL (maybe spelled differently) She was born on May 22, 1868 in Sutter Creek. Her first marriage was to a man named HALL. I don't have any information on him. They might have gotten married in Sutter Creek or in Portland, Oregon. Hall either died or they divorced before 1893 because she married my gggrandfather John SLEIGHT. John was alot older than she was. My ggrandfather Robert (Johns son) was older than Anna. On Anna's death certificate it states that her father was from Canada and her mother was from Ireland. Anna died in 1910 in Portland. She was only 42. Thanks!!

    1. [CAAMADOR] nova scotia
    2. Abbie Parrish
    3. Ron, Nova Scotia means new Scotland, and most of its people were scotch, the prior were French. If any of you genealogist want a good read that is very very informative read albions seed. Albion being the first name for England, meaning white cliffs. it tells you things like that the puritans were from east England and thought they were the chosen few and married between them self's, and settled in mass. and new jersey, upper jersey, and the Virginians were upper class from west England and were the second sons of the very rich and knew that they would not inherit the land at home so they brought there money and settled Virginia which most of the land belonged to about 25 families in early 1700-1800 and also married between the other rich families, and that the PA. area called the Delaware valley was settled by Quakers and Welsh on land given to William Penn for debts owing his father a big navy commander who was raised in Ireland but was English and cousin of Berkley who was governer of Virginia. and that the Quakers were run out of Virginia and mass, also many of the PA. residents were Germans brought by Penn on his recruiting trips for the Quakers,Most o! f the Quakers were English of Mormon and French decent from northern England, Not all Penn. people were Quakers but were Quaker friendly , and got along very well, PA. was 75% Quaker in the 1700-1800 , this is a wonderful book and a must for genealogist and people trying to find what part of great Britain there families came from, sorry for getting carried away. 3. Hi Jean, I'm not an ONETO researcher, but I did find a Giam Battista ONETO who married Annie Musante, probably in the 1890s. They probably lived in Coulterville, Mariposa Co. Annie's mom was Rosana Castagnetto, who married Joseph Musante in Coulterville in 1877. Good luck, Don LolaGF@aol.com wrote: > Hi list, > I am wondering if there are any ONETO researchers on this list. > > I am wondering also, if...Charles P. 1. [CAAMADOR] Werly-McKenzie-Stirnaman
    2. Jackie
    3. Ron...found a newspaper clipping regarding some of your family. This looks like could have come from an Amador County newspaper. This reference is where located in Pioneer Roster Vol53 page 39s Date of paper July 19, 1977 Werly-McKenzie-Stirnaman Family Hold Reunion at B. H. Mace Sr. Ranch-Home The home of Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Mace Sr. on Highway 88, was the scene on Saturday, of a reunion of the Werly-McKenzie-Stirnaman family-descendants and relatives by marriage of Thomas C. and Mary Ann McKenzie, old time residents of the Pioneer district. Mr. McKenzie was at one time postmaster and storekeeper at the town of Defender when it was a thriving mining community over fifty years ago. He also served Volcano as constable at a later date. Thomas C. McKenzie came to Volcano in the 1850's from Nova Scotia. Mary Ann Werly came in 1852 from Kentucky via Missouri. The Stirnaman branch of the family also arrived in Amador in the 1850's. Remember at one time I said that my grandmother had referred to the Stirnamans as relatives? This may have been a sorta kinda relation. I know my grandmother's sister was married to a McKenzie so maybe that's how it fits. Thought of you when I found this so thought I'd send it on. You might want to check out the Pioneer Roster index at http://www.compuology.com/cpl/ndgw.htm & see if they have any information on your family. It's only $2.00 for a lookup. And, if not, you could submit your family information so that others coming along later could find it. Jackie in California kimmee@volcano.net

Could there be any records of marriage at the church. Also looking for a marriage record for Maria Coppi to Serafino Menchini between 1904 and 1909. 3. I found this in Louis Rasmussen's Ship Passenger Arrivals in SF, Vol. 4: The Oregon arrived in SF 29 Dec 1852 from Panama, so the passengers apparently to Panama from NY then overland. Passengers included A. Chichizola and L. Bianchetti ( but no family was listed as being with him). The ship's list is full of Amador names, e.g. Solari, Molinari (misspellled), Bacigalupo (several spellings), Arata ... I also found Rocco Caminetti's arrival in SF in June 1852 on the Columbus, again overland, with the name spelled R. Carmenite, but the date's consistent with the NDGW entry on him. (Later in life, Rocco became a 49er who had gone around the horn). The ship also had some "Just" on it, including J. Just and boy, so I'm wondering if it's the Giusto brothers. I've found the books at the D.C. National Archives and the San Diego main library, so suspect most major CA libraries and National Archives would have them.

    3. Jean, If you have the opportunity take a tour of the Kennedy gold mine. It was owned by my Great Aunt for many, many years. Jackson is refurbishing the old buildings and last time I was there (a year and a half) the progress was great. It sits on 80 some acres that you can walk. The tailing wheels and something. The main building is the most awesome. with the wood trimming and the place where they melted the gold. Hope you enjoy your visit there, the people in Jackson are wonderful.
