Hi Trudy.....The writeup on Union City and Alvarado is in two parts....the second a 1950 update. References to the Presbyterian Church is scattered about. :"...Dr. Hamilton, of Oakland, preached the first sermon in the new Presbyterian Church, on Sunday, May 1861........The history of the Presbyterian Church is one of prosperity, which includes the construction of a handsome place of worship on the old location in 1902.....The Presbyterian Church has been dormant for many years. It started with a membership of ten and James J. Stokes as secreetary. In 1903 29 members built a new church.....At present [1950], the San Francisco Presbytery is seeking an English-Portuguese-Spanish-speaking minister for the church. The membership of 11 [1940], rejoined the Centerville Church, from which its original members had gone in 1859. Meanwhile, the building is used for school-release religious education. The Ladies Aid Society is still active...... Looks like your Stokes was active in the 1902 timeframe.....connie
