The hospital building at the corner of Broadway and Moss (now Mac Arthur) was originally part of Fabiloa Hospital where I was born in 1929. The following is from "Oakland, the Story of a City". The predecessor to Fabiola Hospital opened in 1883 on 19th and moved several times before locating on the 21/2 acre location on the corner of Moss and Broadway donated by Anthony Chabot. The hospital on this site opened in 1887. The latest building built was the maternity center in 1923. Fabiloa Closed in 1932 having been eclipsed by Merrit Hospital. All the buildings were torn down but the newest one on the corner of Broadway and Moss. In 1942 This building was sold to Kaiser and was the original part of the Kaiser Perminente Hospital. Kaiser built additional buildings to the east. This date does not jibe with being born at the site in 1940. The Kaiser Health plan probably started around 1940 when the ship building got underway and may have operated at another location initially. Ralph Anderson Boulder, CO rkaboulder@bwn.net
