My cousin died a few weeks ago, and on my second visit to the interment facility I looked at the handwriting on the draft information for the death certificate, asked for a new blank, and filled it in myself in block printing. There were no errors on the final certificate. I realize it's too late for you on this one, but I recommend it as a method -- I was shown this back in my college days by an old-time accountant who not only block printed all forms, but recommended using red ink if possible, for ease of reading and minimizing errors. As has been said, once the death certificate information is on file with Vital Records, all corrections will just be made on an additional sheet (my father's birth certificate in Alameda County has two correction sheets, one soon after his birth and the second thirty years later.
