He was born in San Francisco on 16 April 1920 (although some sources say 1917), but the family later moved to Oakland, hence my choice of message board. The numerous obituaries I have read say that Nelson was of Scandinavian descent, as his name also suggests. Haakon is usually a Norwegian name, so more specifically I gather that he was of Norwegian ancestry. None of the obituaries I have read mention the names of his parents, which would help me to track down his possible Norwegian roots. Is anyone able to help me on this? Thanks in advance. Dag T.
