Barroom Brawl One man was killed and two men were wounded during a battle over a revolver in a San Francisco saloon lsat night. The three were all innocent bystanders. Eugene BASTRION, 70, 761 Turk St., died at Mission Emergency Hospital. Howard KARJALA, 43, 685 McAllister St., was wounded in the face and John MONSON, 52, 592 Golden Gate Ave., in the right leg. Police said three other men entered the bar at 700 Turk St. about 7 p.m. and tried to provoke a fight with an off-duty cab driver, Theodore BRAUNE, 32, 965 Hyde St. Braune, who occsionally helps out around the saloon, finally steppeed behind the bar and brought out a revolver, fired two shots into the ceiling and told the men to leave. The men jumped BRAUNE and during the struggle for the weapon the three men sitting at the bar were shot. The three ran around the coner right into a patrol car responding to call from the saloon. Booked on suspicion of assault with intent to commit murder were Raymond Lopez, 28, 821 Haight St., Joe A. Rodriquez, 36, 84 Ervine St. and Ray Solis, 24, 42 Powers St. ============ San Mateo Times, San Mateo, CA, Monday, August 19, 1968, Page 3 Bar Row; Victim Dies SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Men struggled over a gun in the Roaring Lion Bar, and as the weapon blazed three bystanders were wounded. One, Eugene Bastian, 70, died two hours later in a hospital. Howard KARJALA, 43, and John MONSON, 48, were reported in fair condition. Police said bartender William Bailey told them he had refused service Saturday night to three men who appeared drunk. The three began abusing a cabdriver, Ted Braune, who got a pistol from behind the bar and fired two shots in an effort to scare the men off, officers said. During the ensuing scuffle between BRAUNE and the three men, a series of shots was fired, poice said. Arrested and booked on suspicion of attempted murder were Raymond Lopez, 28, Joe Rodriguez, 26, and Ray Solis, 24. Police said their cases would be discussed with the district attorney today.
