Not sure if you knew this or not. I found her in the 1910 census, living in Oakland, listed as a widow, found her and James, her husband, listed in 1900 census, living in Napa County, he was a farmer. The first time I found her in the Oakland City Directory was the 1906, one. Also checked the pre 1940 California Death Index and he is not listed. Thank you to everyone who wrote with very generous offers to pick up the cert for me and with advice (unknown...what a great idea!) on how to try one more time on my own. I appreciate that you all took the time to help me. And Mary, yes, that's the Robert A. I'm looking for. I've found the IL census you talk about. I am now looking to connect him with a particular Robert Craig STEARMAN. Of course, with any 'Irish luck' Robert A's death cert will list his father's full name...right? Don't worry....I'm not holding my breath. Thank you very much.....wish me luck! jamie ----- Original Message ----- > > I use "?" and "Unknown" to get past questions >> Jamie Hunter wrote: >> I have been trying for 2 years now, to order the death cert of Robert A. >> STEARMAN died March 4, 1938.

Hi Rebekah, Go to http://www.vitalrec.com and click to you get to the Alameda Co., CA, page. Print out the form they provide for you. If you don't know the answers to all the questions, say "unknown". And keep in mind anyone can get a death certififate for anyone who died in Calif. It will be stamped in open block letters, NFORMATIONAL - NOT A VALID DOCUMENT TO ESTABLISH IDENTIY. You will be able to read everything that's on the document. The state of California turned over the death certificates to the individual counties about a year or so ago. When that first happened I sent for one through Alameda County and got it back in a couple of weeks.
