The following are excerpts from History of Washington Township, a book I bought from EBay..... SPENCER The first school in Irvington was a private one taught by M. M Spencer, in a small building (now a granary...note time is circa 1904 when written but is referring to period circa 1860s), owned by G. M. walters. There were eight pupils, but as Mr. Spencer received but twenty dollars a month, without the privilege of boarding round, his position could scarcely have been a very lucrative one. FISCHER Between 1820 and 1830, Alexander Forbes, an Englishman, Edward Fischer, a German, and William Gulnac and Jedediah Smith, Americans, tarried near Mission San Jose. Mr. Smith alarmed Father Dugan, who had him thrown into the San Jose jail. He was later released and sent on his way to oregon. Later withthe coming of more Americans, the story of modern Mission San Jose begins..... (three of the chidren with parents- the other three not born yet) Joe (Joseph) Ough and Tabatha Bairds children- 3 boys, three girls born in the 1870's and 1880's. John, Joe, Norval, Suzy, Dolly, Pearl Also with them was a 65 year old Thomas Ough and a 72 year old Robert Patten. (1870 Alameda County Census) Any hints on were to look further appreciated. Vicki Richardson
I'm here too!! :-)) Just kinda quiet. Would dearly love descendants/information/ connections/most anything on: Gardner A. B. SPENCER, born abt 1866, CA, maybe "son of Dorcus Spencer, the great W. C. T. U. worker" (???). Lived at 1324 Weber Street, Alameda, on the 1920 Census. Married to Edna M. FISHER 24 Dec 1890 in Woodland, Yolo Co, CA. (age 24) Children: Marjorie E. SPENCER (abt 1902-) Kenyon G. SPENCER (abt 1905-) Father "born England", mother "born Rhode Island (1920 census) Occupation: was stockkeeper for an "Elevator Co" (1920 census) It's Edna (FISHER) SPENCER that I'm related to. I've found her maternal grandmother - long a mystery-woman to the family - and would love to share with her descendants. Any information would be terrific! Regards, Carolyn Carter Johnson (mailto:rhunterg@ix.netcom.com) aka the "other" Carolyn :-)))

I'm looking for info about Lilburn WADE b: 1858 and his wife Emma VINEYARD Wade b: 1866, they were originally from VA. The last four of their ten children were born after they moved to San Joaquin Co., CA from Missouri around 1905. In 1933 they were living in Oakland. The newspaper clipping of their 50th wedding anniversary lists eight children. Chester Arthur, Owen, Charles, William French, Sadie, Joan, Myrtle & Bessie. The girls married names were listed but I don't know which name went with which girl, the names were MERCER, MCGUSHIN, DAL PORTO, WISECARVER, and FENZEL. Lilburn died in 1933 in Oakland, Emma died in 1952 in Stockton.
