    3. Colleen... Question. Does your CADI have both the county AND the state registration numbers or just the state number? I would suggest that, if you have both numbers, they both should be given as the state number doesn't have any meaning when contacting the county and vice versus when contacting the state. 3. Janet... Alameda County and San Francisco City/County have never been connected except by the San Francisco Bay Bridge. I don't know why people are putting queries for SF on the Alameda list, but I do try and check the SF Chronicle microfilm, if I see a request, just in case I can find an obit. 2. Dear List: This clipping does not have a newspaper heading. MISS MARY SNELL CALLED BY DEATH Founder of Snell's Seminary for Girls Dies After Long Life as Educator ____________ Was Well Known in Social and Educational Circles of Pacific Coast _____________ BERKELEY, May 14.--Miss Mary E. SNELL, founder of Snell's seminary for girls, died this morning after a long illness at the school, 2721 Channing Way. Miss Snell has been ill for the last year and her death was not unexpected, although she still continued her work in the Latin and Greek class rooms. She has been on the coast for 40 years, and her standing in academic circles was high. Miss Snell was born in New York nearly 60 years ago. Her family moved to Iowa, and she received a degree from Iowa college in 1868. Coming to this state in 1870 she became a member of the faculty of a school for girls at San Bernardino and was later affiliated as a teacher of classics in a Benicia seminary. She became principal of the school in 1874. Four years later the Benicia school was reorganized by Miss Snell and her sister, Mrs. Edna SNELL-POULSON, established at 568 Twelfth Street, Oakland. After two years spent abroad with her sister Miss Snell again reorganized the school, and the seminary was removed to it present location in Channing Way. A few weeks ago when a chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa honorary scholarship society was organized at her alma mater, Iowa college, Miss Snell was admitted to membership. Among the members of the family who survive are her sister, Miss Sarah SNELL and Mrs. Edna SNELL POULSON of Berkeley; Dr. Margaret C. SNELL of the state agricultural college at Corvallis, Ore., and a brother, Richard SNELL, a student of the University of California. The funeral will be held from Snell's seminary Saturday afternoon, the day which had been set for the Snell's college alumni luncheon, which has been postponed. On account of the death of their principal member of the class of 1908 of Snell's seminary will give no senior play this year, but the commencement exercises will be held on May 22. __________________ GRADUATES--1908 COMMENCEMENT SNELL SEMINARY FRIDAY, MAY TWENTY-SECOND Nineteen Hundred and Eight Eight O'clock P. 2. Hello Again, I am looking for my mystery biological Grandfather. I am told that he Robert HANKIN and my Grandmother, Catherine (Rena) CHRISTENSEN, met in Oakland, CA, around 1920. I think they got married there too. He was British, and never naturalized. He got a job at the Royal Dutch Oil Company in Tampico, Mexico. My Mother was born enroute to Mexico. My Mother was born June, 1927. Catherine drove to Mexico. Later on they divorced, and my Grandmother and Mother drove back to Oakland, and he remained in Mexico. This is all I have! I feel that this marriage, would be my starting point. I have a birth date for Catherine, as August 1888. Her father is John CHRISTENSEN, and her Mother Anna VICINI-CHRISTENSEN. Thank you Jean Hehn Colorado

    3. Kathy: Having the microfilm in the Periodical Room instead of Bancroft is a treat...but the next time you visit, be sure to walk down the hall to visit the Bancroft Library. It is a research library so you can't just stroll in, but once you get registered as a researcher you'll find a wealth of California history and sources. 3. If you've ever visted a GenConnect query page for a geographic location, the same query pages now exist for surnames. In addition to queries, there are pages for obits, wills, bibles, etc. The group of those pages under one surname is called a cluster.
