Susanna This is really gets very interesting. 1) I checked the Oakland City Directory for 1917 and found a Mary FARRELL, living at 2701 Myrtle, a widow of Thomas A. 2) Check in 1917 for a Thomas FARRELL, found a few but none of them had any thing to do with plumber/water works inspector. 3) Checked later Directories and the same story. 4) Now this is where starts to get interesting, found the death notice for Mary S(hanley) FARRELL, she died July 31, 1917, was the widow Thomas A., the mother of Olivia C., and the late Thomas E, Mary E. and Lucy A. FARRELL. She was a native of Country (Lettrim?) Ireland, age 86, to be buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in Oakland. 5) So having nothing better to do when to the cemetery, and looked her up and asked who else was in the same plot. There is only one other person, a Olivia C. FARRELL, who died on Feb. 28, 1931, was a native of Ohio, age 73 years 4 months. Now it get when and checked out the tombstone and they have the wrong date of death for Mary, they show July 12, 1917. If you want I can check death notice for Olivia, and the one for Thomas, just to see who he is? This is a real strange one. :-) Hope this helps. Sherry I checked the Oakland City Directory for those years, for it also covers Berkeley and Alameda, and could not find them. The closes that I came to was a Desmond GALLAGHER, who in 1908 was actor with the "Ye Liberty Playhouse" he lived at 463 Oakland, in 1909 he is still living at the same place but is now a student, also a Mary M. GALLAGHER, is also living at that same address. So when I came back to San Francisco, I check the San Francisco City Directories for those years and found the following: 1902 Dennis GALLIGAN, is in San Francisco as a Laborer 1903-04 Same listing 1905 He is now listed as Dennis GALLAGHER, same address (sorry forgot to write the address down had a meeting had go to) :-( 1908-09 There two Dennis GALLAGHER, listed both as laborers 1909-10 and 1911 there is one listed as a laborer and he was living at 2215 1/2 Pine. If you need the any of the other address please let me know. Hope this is of help George Mallman >Listers, does anyone have access to Berkeley City Directories @ 1900-1910? >My ancestors Denis and Catherine Galligan( also spelled Gallaghin, >gallagher)were in SF in 1900, but weren't there for the 1910 Census. Hello- I would appreciate a date-of-death lookup for an uncle who died as a small boy. I don't have a specific date which makes it difficult to formally request a death certificate. Here's the info that I have: Giuseppe Caracciolo Born about 1913; died 1918 or 1919, probably in Oakland. Son of Frank and Rosina Caracciolo who resided in Oakland. He was killed when he tried to hitch a ride on a ice truck, so I expect something may have been published in local newspapers. With any info, I can reseach this further. Thanks!

Greetings to all! I am in need of a lookup for obits, the first one name is FARRELL,Mary, DOD July 31, 1917. Also, I need to see if an obit. was printed on her son, Thomas FARRELL who died on January 28(? Very hard to read - maybe a 6?), 1933. Both died in Alameda county. Mary was 86 years old; her son Thomas was 70 years old. If anyone could help me I would very much appreciate it as I have been looking for this portion of my family (my great great grandfather, James William O'Donnell's sister - Mary Farrell (nee O'Donnell) for a very long time. If anyone can find either Mary or Thomas in a directory from the era after the earthqake that would help greatly. Thomas was a plumber/water works inspector. I understand Oakland doesn't have real good records either because of the earthquake of 1906. Does anyone know if any of the removals of graves from San Francisco (i.e. Cavlary?) were to Oakland? Thank you in advance for any help. Susanna

For those interested in the what's happening at rootsweb.com and other news that's genealogy related, you can subscribe easily to the following newsletters, MISSING LINKS AND ROOTSWEB REVIEW by following the directions at the bottom of this message. I've been sharing what I thought was of interest from these two newsletters. I was asked to consolidate my messages by someone (too many duplicate posts) on more than one of the county lists. ROOTSWEB INTRODUCES GENSEEKER, a new search engine that accesses almost all sites at RootsWeb and many genealogical sites elsewhere on the Web. These searches are more than three times faster than they were before we upgraded the CPU and disk subsystem. Access GenSeeker at <http://seeker.rootsweb.com/>. The amount of material accessed by GenSeeker is huge and will grow quickly as this search engine indexes an ever-increasing number of Web sites. Try GenSeeker often to find new items of interest. GenSeeker is a good example of your contributions at work to make free genealogical data accessible on the Web.

Hi, I have found the Bethlehem Evangelical (German) Lutheran Church listed in the 1925 Berkeley/Oakland City directory at the corner of Grove and Ashby. Would that by any chance be near Delaware St. in Berkeley? I have ancestors that lived at 1035 Delaware and I'm trying to figure out what Lutheran church they might have attended. I tried to read the map at the FHC but it was impossible. Any hints or suggestions would be appreciated. Ernestine Wark, looking for KUEHNE, BUSCH in Berkeley and Oakland.

The Library of Congress has digitized hundreds of their maps and made them available for researchers online. You can search and view these digitized maps by visiting their web site at: http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/gmdhtml/rrhtml/rrhome.html Remember that learning what railroads were available as your ancestors were migrating to the west may help you determine how they got there and where they may have stopped.
