    2. Norby Family
    3. In July, 1997 NARA established an updated fee schedule for services provided to the public. The minimum mail-order fee for photocopies for each WWI Draft card was increased from $6.00 to $10.00, a fee which includes both sides of the card. Patrons need not request that both sides of the card be copied, and patrons need not submit a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) with their request. Walk-in customers can make self-service photocopies of the original records for $0.10 per side. Please contact individual regions for their policies regarding microfilm copies. These fees are copying fees only; there is no charge for searches when a record is not located. **At a minimum, the following information is required from the requestor for NARA staff to conduct a search for draft registration cards: o Full name of registrant o Complete home address at the time of registration (to include county) o Name of nearest relative Additional information, if known, which can improve the thoroughness of a search includes: o Birth date o Birthplace o Occupation of registrant NARA, Southeast Region, has provided a request form for these records for a number of years. The forms can be ordered via e-mail (archives@atlanta.gov), telephone (404-763-7383), or in writing (NARA, Southeast Region, 1557 St. Joseph Avenue, East Point, GA 30344). JAMES J. 3. Hi, folks-- Well, I'm suddenly on the asking end of this list... My husband received a rather bizarre letter the other day from a distant cousin in Sweden who thought he might be her long lost brother. Being ever curious, I've offered to help her track this mysterious missing person down. Her father apparently zipped off to the US for a couple of years in the mid-1940s, ca. 1946-1949, and fathered a child in or near Albany, Alameda Co. Since we have not been able to track down anyone with the surname SOMMARSTROM born at about that time (and whose parentage we don't already know!), we suspect the woman remarried after dear ol' Eric headed back to Sweden (ca 1949) and both she and the child took the other man's surname. So....is there anybody of this list who could check for a marriage and/or birth involving a male SOMMARSTROM in the mid-40s in or near Albany? There will be a few of them in Alameda Co. during that period, as my husband and sister were both born there in the 40s, as were several female cousins. Thanks for any assistance any of you can provide. Ginny in Seattle _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. Visit http://www.msn.com

    2. Hi Trudy.....The writeup on Union City and Alvarado is in two parts....the second a 1950 update. References to the Presbyterian Church is scattered about. :"...Dr. Hamilton, of Oakland, preached the first sermon in the new Presbyterian Church, on Sunday, May 1861........The history of the Presbyterian Church is one of prosperity, which includes the construction of a handsome place of worship on the old location in 1902.....The Presbyterian Church has been dormant for many years. It started with a membership of ten and James J. Stokes as secreetary. In 1903 29 members built a new church.....At present [1950], the San Francisco Presbytery is seeking an English-Portuguese-Spanish-speaking minister for the church. The membership of 11 [1940], rejoined the Centerville Church, from which its original members had gone in 1859. Meanwhile, the building is used for school-release religious education. The Ladies Aid Society is still active...... Looks like your Stokes was active in the 1902 timeframe.....connie
