Hi fellow listers, I'm not all that familiar with California but I'm wondering if anybody can tell me what counties are McDowell and Siskon City in? I can't seem to find them on the map anywhere. I have relatives born in 1911, Siskon City, Ca and 1913, McDowell, Ca. Also San Mateo. Thank you in advance Melville Fletcher Tokyo, Japan
I ordered a copy of my wife's uncle's death certificate from San Bernardino county and there was an error in the original, the cemetery name was spelled incorrectly. I also got (may have cost extra, I can't remember) a correction that was filed showing the items changed and the original information and the correct information. You need both so that you have correct information. larry k. ************************************************************ At 07:59 PM 10/21/1999 -0700, Edward A. Received 2 copies of mother-in-law's death certificate today. She died on Oct 10th. It had 3 errors in it. The mortuary [Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward, CA] said that they would have to ammend the death certificate. I sent the incorrect death certificates back to the mortuary, requesting the ammended ones. Am I to understand that when one requests an ammended death certificate that what we receive is a 2-page noterized certificate [the incorrect original and a seperate page with the ammendments/corrections on it]?. The mortuary had filed the death certificate the day before I was able to send them the correct info on my mother-in-law. I want to be sure Alameda County records are correct, which is why I am following up on this. I mearly wishing to make sure that the info on the death certificate is accurate [it is a legal document] so that others requesting it have the corrected information, not erroneous info. Hi. I just recently found out my grandmother had a sister who emigrated from Wales to Oakland. Her names was Margaret Dwyer, and she married Jim McDonald in California around 1925. She was born around 1897-1900 from my best guesstimite.I have a few letters and pictures that were sent by her to family in Wales. Most of them seem to be from 1947. The earliest letter is written from Emeryville and the others from Oakland. In these letters she mentions Daughter Delores, Son John (Jack) and the youngest Patricia. Jack was born in 1931, and Delores seems about 6 yrs. older, Patricia 2 yrs. younger in the pictures. It sounds from the letters that her husband has died, but she never speaks of the circumstances or actually states he has died, just that they miss him.Sounds like pretty final grieving. Supposedly the last time she was heard from was 1947. Anyway, my questions, if anyone can give me some help, as I'm very unfamiliar with CA: Were there directories for Emeryville around 1925? Can you obtain a Marriage record search for a woman with only a maiden last name? (Her daughter Delores had a child, but I don't the husband's name) What are the available resources I can check for in Oakland in the 1920s-40s? Were there particular TB hospitals in 1947 in Oakland? (Her daughter Patricia had TB and was in the hospital) Was there a 9th Rte or St in Oakland in 1947? I can't make out the rest of the address on the envelope. What were the Catholic Churches in Oakland in Emeryville in 1925? In Oakland in 1940s? I would be most grateful if someone can help with these questions or lend me some advice or guidance for finding out more about these people. It's very possible I have living relatives in CA, but not much to go on to find them! Thank you for your time. Those are all the details I have access to. I'm in Stanislaus county. You can order the death certificate from the state or the county. Here's the info site for CA vital records: http://vitalrec.com/ca.html You could also contact someone in Marin county that could visit the recorder's office to look at the death certificate (assuming the recorder's office allows public searches, not all do for free) or find a volunteer to look at newspapers for an obit. Here are some sites that you might find Marin volunteers on Find Marin's website here: http://www.compuology.com/cagenweb/ Volunteers arranged by county: http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnraogk/californ.htm http://posom.com/hl/usa/ca.shtml http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/6995/ca72298.html http://members.aol.com/sjhcamp/index.html Good luck. Hi Fred, Well, the Hardin Gilbert listed in the SSDI did not die in CA according to CADI unless it was under a different first or last name. There were no Hardin Gilberts dying in CA 1940-94. It could be that his death benefits went to the son that you found and that's why the SSDI shows Berkeley. Hope the gentleman will provide you with further info. Hi Fred, You're more likely to find someone to volunteer to search for an obituary if you have the actual date of death, not just a month. I'd be happy to check for his actual death date from CADI, the CA Death Index. The CADI listing will tell you the county he actually died in, his spouse's initials if a spouse survived him, and the state certificate number for ordering his death certificate. Are you positve that the listing in the SSDI is your Hardin Gilbert because you're sure that the birthdate listed is correct? Once you're sure of the county location of death you can visit one of these sites and see if that county has a volunteer that will search for an obituary for you: http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnraogk/californ.htm http://posom.com/hl/usa/ca.shtml http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/6995/ca72298.html http://members.aol.com/sjhcamp/index.html If you need clarification of any point, please include the previous message in your response. Found in CADI: 1940-49 Clara Mesplou, spouse JM, Alameda, 10/30/1944, 68108 Victor V. King, Los Angeles, 6/20/1949 46473 Given Clara's spouse's initials, you really need to have someone check pre1940 CADI for the spouse listed. I didn't find a Mesplou in 1940-59 that would match a first name of J. Ordering her death certificate would answer the question also. The location of death listed above is the COUNTY of death. In the D.A.R. National Magazine dated, April 1979, pp. 309-312 there was an article on a unique Revolutionary Militia List entitled "Classed Returnee of Capt. Are there any D.A.R. members out there that have this back issue and can send me a copy or tell me how to get a copy. Sincerely, James Dickinson JDEnergy@aol.com
Barb... You should have the full name of the child, the name of the father, the mother's maiden name and approximate date of birth. City of residence would be helpful, as for many years Berkeley kept their own records in their Dept. of Public Health. If you would send me what information you have, I'll check the records to see what information I can find.
