    3. Diane, This information is from the California Death Index: BUSHKI JOSEPH MICHAEL b. 03/14/1882 WISCONSIN Mother's maiden name: SCHMIDT Father's Last Name: BUSHKI D. ALAMEDA(01) CA 03/22/1958 76 yrs BUSHKI JOSEPHINE ZABOROWSKI b. 07/01/1891 MINNESOTA Father's Last Name: ZABOROWSKI d. SANTA CRUZ CA d. 02/27/1950 58 yrs You might contact the main Library in Santa Cruz, write or call, and they can probably find an obit for Josephine for you for Santa Cruz County Since she was only 58, you probably won't find her on SSDI. It seems Alameda County is more difficult (at least they were not able to find mine.) 3. Can anyone from the Alameda list help with getting more infor on the death of Joseph. Michael Bushki died 3-22-1958 Alameda County, CA. Age 76. The foregoing info was gathered from SS Death index. What I am looking for is to see if I can find any information on the next of kin. I suspect that he was living with a daughter named Madeleine Bushki Reese and/or grandson named David Reese. There is a posssiblity that his daughter remarried after the death of her mother and so the surname Reese may not be correct. If any one has access to the county phone book(s) or can get a death transcript for me, please contact me. An address off the death transcript and and relatives mentioned would be very helpful. Had the Library check the newspapers but they couldn't find an obit. Perhaps none was ever printed. Diane __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? It's divided by brides and grooms, and then by decade. It is available through the Family History Library, and your local Family History Center may have the set of fiche on file. The California Genealogical Society has a set of the fiche in their library, as do other public libraries with genealogical collections. If you can't find the index locally, you might post a request on the list, or write one of the libraries for a lookup. Cat Nielsen

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/zV.2ADI/1649.1.1.1.2.1.2.1 Message Board Post: Dorothy, A death certificate from Alameda County costs $13.00, unless someone on the Alameda list wants to do research for you for free this would be your least expensive option. The California Genealogical Society, located in Oakland, Alameda County, California accpets research requests at $20.00 an hour, and most professional researchers charge more than that. Margaret may have just been visiting in Alameda County when she died. A cousin from No. Michigan died in Berkeley, CA while here on vacation in 1916. I never would have found his death, never would have occurred to look in CA, if my mother hadn't mentioned that she thought she heard stories about his death in her youth... As far as the name Alameda. It is a county in Northern California, and within the county is a city of the same name. The city of Alameda is on an island in SF Bay just west of Oakland. One can drive to it by taking the Posey Tube or driving over one of the small bridges. The California Death Index lists the County of Death, not the city, so she died somewhere within the county. In answer to your other question about other places with the name of Alameda, I will direct you to GNIS at the following web site: http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/web_query.gnis_web_query_form If you put in Alameda, in the feature name, California in the state and click send query you will get back a list of things named in Alameda in California - communities, mines, creeks, etc. Also, if you leave feature blank, put California in the state, Alameda in the County, and choose a feature type of hospital, you will see how many hospitals there are in the county. Margaret may or may not have died at one of them. Your only other option would be to write to the libraries in the various towns to see if they have local newspapers for 1991 and will do an obit look up. You might be able to email the library and ask, then send money when it is found. Also, go to the Tiger Map service at: http://tiger.census.gov/cgi-bin/mapbrowse-tbl click on New Location and put in Alameda County, CA. Then choose Tiger Map for Alameda County, it will bring back a map that will give you a feel for how large the county is..... Good luck, Cat Nielsen

If an obituary was published it might appear in one of the larger newspapers such as: SF Chronicle, SF Examiner, Oakland Tribune, or San Jose Mecury News. Or, it might be in one of the many smaller newspapers serving individual communities. The Oakland library has microfilm of the Oakland Tribune, the San Francisco library has the SF Examiner and SF Chronicle, the Berkeley library has the Gazette, which was not in print in 1991. Smaller libraries within the county might have film for their communities such as Hayward, Fremont, Pleasanton, etc. If you want to know where they were living and where they died you can order a copy of their death certificates from the county. Then you can zero in on the obituary, or contact the funeral home and ask for a copy. The county's web site provides information on how to order vital records at: http://www.co.alameda.ca.us/ For a list of research libraries in the SF Bay Area try the Consortium web site at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~casfbagc/Pages/libraries.htm For a list of cities, towns, and communities as well as newspapers in Alameda County try the Links & List page for Alameda County, part of CA GenWeb and USGENWEB at: http://www.cagenweb.com/alameda/Pages/lists_links.htm Good luck, Cat Nielsen CAGenWeb Alameda County
