    3. Melodee You might want to check first at the Oakland Library Newspaper Room, for they have the voting rolls, which list everyone who had signed up to vote, in the different years. You might want to check the 1912 list, for in California, that would of been the first year his wife could of voted. Women in California, got the right to vote on Oct 11, 1911. For if they were able to vote they had become citizens, as to where the paper work would be not sure it could be at the Alameda Court House, which is just across the street from the Main Library. 1. 1860 Marriage Records - LOWRIE
    2. Are the early (1860) marriage records kept by county or is there a master index of them? John LOWRIE was married to Mary (several spellings) RHEDEN, RHODEN, REDDING, etc. I have found a Mary RIORDEN in Sacramento County in the 1860 census. She is about the right age and was born in Ireland. John LOWRIE and Mary REDDING were married in Mission San Jose on Dec. 25, 1860 (recorded in Latin). Is it possible that there was a civil marriage maybe in Sacramento and the Mission San Jose ceremony was the Catholic blessing of the marriage? I think the Catholic church in Mission San Jose is St. Joseph’s. The LOWRIE’s were not Catholic. Nancy Lowrie Wright

Surnames: Finch Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/zV.2ADI/1734 Message Board Post: Book is "A History of Fred Finch Children's Home: Oldest Methodist Home for Children in California 1891-1955" by Reginald R. Stuart & Grace D. Stuart. Copyright 1955. This book does not list children who were part of the home. It is about the people who created the home and then staffed it through the years. There are a few children pictues (one of the Kindergarten class about 1900) but it's a rare case when a child's name is listed. However, if a member of your family was on staff during the above years, chances are their name might be in the book. Am willing to provide lookups as long as the requester can be patient to receive the information after posting the request.
