Tammy, I believe that Engel & Co. owned, or possibly still owns, the Laurel Chapel at 3300 High Street in Oakland. You might check with them about the possibility of them having records. Also, there is a St. Joseph's in San Pablo, which is north of Oakland and Berkeley, but is within the jurisdiction of the Oakland Diocese. Hi, I noticed that you are familiar with San Leandro. My cousins are listed below in the California Death Index (George Herrick d. 8/19/1980, Laurel Brown Herrick d. 6/22/1981 & Mary Herrick 2/20/1977), all born in NY, but died in Alameda (01) County. I know absolutely nothing other than what I found here. People have looked for an obit and have come up empty. (I think these cousins want to remain a mystery!) Can you offer any suggestions? Can I also ask a big favor, can you keep an eye out for them as you wander a cemetery or two or if you do some Court House searching (someone said they were doing that but I haven't heard from them in a long time. This lady had worked across the street & wanted to help out. I'm sure she got busy and I will hear from her eventually when things calm down.) Its been closed for along time. Probably Hayward or Oakland. Mountain View in Oakland is the largest and Hayward has several large ones, including religious cemeteries.
