Actually I found out from relatives that he also went by Harry and I founf one Harry THOMPSON with the spouse F (His wife was Florence) age 47 (he was born in 1871) died in Alameda (died at Livermore Sanitarium) Died when his youngest daughter was 9 (she was born in 1909) Died 18 Nov 1918. I have sent the information to his granddaughter (he was my great uncle so better for his granddaughter to send for it in CA) Thanks for your help. Hello Eileen, I suggest you write the Livermore-Amador Genealogical Society. (LAGS). They have a large active group of members and one of them should have the information you seek. They also have a website with cemetery listings that you may want to look through. Just google the society's name and it should come up. You can obtain a death certificate for Henry through the Alameda County courthouse in Oakland. This would give you an exact date of his death and may lead to an obituary. Anyone can get a death certificate for someone that died in California. Go to http://www.vitalrec.com for address, fee, etc. California turned over the death certificates to the individual counties about 3 years ago. Don't leave any stones unturned! Hi Last, If someone died at the Livermore Sanitarium in 1918 and was an indigent where would they have buried them ? Eileen Gillette Hawthorne, Nevada
Eileen, I see a newspaper mention of the Livermore Asylum in 1897: Woodland Daily Democrat (Newspaper) - January 11, 1897, Woodland ... Subscription - Woodland Daily Democrat - NewspaperArchive - Jan 11, 1897 He was then taken to Colusa, where he was detained by the officers until a reeular keeper could arrive from. the Livermore Asylum to take charge of him. ... Hi List, I know I have talked to the list recently about searching for the Livermore Asylum. Can anybody tell me how long it was active as an asylum ? The person I am looking for, Henry Thompson, died right around 1918 there. His daughter is well into her 90's and has a failing memory so I am trying to re-construct her father's life and death for her and her family. Seems each clue I come up with jogs her memory a bit. What cemeteries would be nearest to the location of the Asylum ? Thank you, Eileen Gillette Hawthorne, NV RAOGK Volunteer Mineral County, NV

It's been awhile since I ordered birth or death certs from California. When I did, though, I thought they didn't take an inordinate amount of time responding by mail considering what a big state California is and how many requests they must get all the time (I went through the Vital Statistics office in Sarcramento). I live in Honolulu, so walking in isn't an option for me. On the subject of orderding birth certificates, I cant believe what a pain in the -- it has become. I just did this last week..My daughter who lives in Utah needed her birth certificate asap. She was born in Alameda County. I now live 2 hours away from Oakland, in Merced County..I tried to order it online, or by mail...first I would have to download a form, (Im not on a computer, cant download) then to write a letter with all the pertinent info her name, dob, my maiden name etc..then it has to be notarized, then it has to be sent with payment . They been hold the payment 3-5 days..But if I walked into the office all I needed was my ID.. So, you guessed it, I missed a days work, a days pay, I drove 2 hours (over 4hrs total about $40.00 for gas)had to pay for parking, another dollar, then the cheapest part of all was the birth cert, $19.00 ..!!! Luckily the lady there told me I could get a copy of any other b.c's I needed for my ancestors, a whole lot easier, and by mail...When I saw the stacks of letter requests on her desk, one I noted dated early January, with checks still attached to them, I thought, wow, with as many requests as they get it must take an awfully long time to get them back by mail, so Id still opt for walking in, (and if I was in the area!) Hi George Thanks so much for posting about Piedmont's centenial. I lived in Piedmont years ago, two of my friends from grade school and I still keep in touch (they no ,longer live in Calf.,) I know they will really enjoy reading this also, I will forward it to them this evening. Thanks again. Cris-Atwater California p.s. George, I was in Oakland last week, at the court house, walked right passed the library and thought of you. Wish I had known then that my email had been bouncing so I was unsubscribed from the list, or I would have contacted you before I got there. I told my finacee,I should walk into the genealogy room and just ask if George was here...maybe next time
