The Loomis Basin Historical Society will hear the story of Placer County pioneers Peter and Marie Oest at their meeting on Wednesday, 20 August 2003. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Loomis Library located on Library Drive (off Horseshoe Bar Road, behind the Veterans Memorial Hall). The program is presented by Loomis resident Barbara Leak who is a descendant of the pioneer couple. An avid genealogist, Leak will illustrate her presentation with photographs, maps, historical documents and quotes from family letters written almost 150 years ago. The family history includes tales of adventure, gold mining, homesteading, and a mail order bride.
