Have you ever been asked to present a Family History lecture or Family Reunion Presentation and wished you had PowerPoint skills? Folsom Cordova Adult Education is offering a 10 week course on Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint. Following are examples of how you might use these programs to further your Family History Research and increase your presentation skills: ___________________________________ Ancestry Daily News, 07 August 2003 Ancestry Quick Tip 'I just wanted to share an idea I am trying to organize information on possible leads to my brick wall family-the Kentucky Nelsons of the early 1800s. I have entered all the Nelson tidbits I have found into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. I include columns for surname, first and middle names, county of record, type of record, date of record, source, and others named in record. The handy feature of using Excel is that I can resort my chart using any column, so that I can compare the names found in Bath County records, or all the records about Moses Nelson at will. The brick wall is still standing, but by the time it falls I may be able to declare myself the expert on all Nelsons in Kentucky in the early 1800s. (I think that they may, to a large extent, be related as they certainly favored the same first names!!!)' Following is an example of a PowerPoint Presentation uploaded to a family history site. IMPORTANT, when the page loads, do not use the 'click here to start' link, rather look to the bottom right of the page and click on 'download presentation source.' This may take a few minutes. When the slide show loads, use your right and left arrow keys to navigate through the presentation. http://home.comcast.net/~susanjackman/bfh/bfhadd/ ___________________________________________ THERE ARE ONLY 5 OPENINGS LEFT FOR THIS 10 WEEK COURSE in Folsom WHICH BEGINS THURSDAY 11 SEPTEMBER.
